Abstract: Multi-layered, golf balls having a core made of a particle-based polyurethane foam composition are provided. The ball includes a dual-layered core having a foam inner core (center) and surrounding outer core layer. The surrounding outer core layer is preferably made from a foamed composition. In one embodiment, pre-expanded thermoplastic polyurethane foam beads containing a blowing agent are used to form the foam center and outer core. In another embodiment, pre-formed polyurethane foam particles are used in both core layers. The foam cores have good resiliency, thermal stability, and durability over a wide temperature range. The ball further includes a cover that may be multi-layered.

Abstract: A golf ball comprising at least one layer comprised of a neutralized acid polymer composition consisting of a mixture of: (a) at least one low molecular weight acid-containing wax; (b) at least one non-acid-polymer; and (c) at least one organic acid or salt thereof. Each low molecular weight acid-containing wax may have a molecular weight of from about 500 to about 7000, and in some embodiments, the molecular weight may be considered low up to 30,000. Interactions between components (a), (b) and (c) as disclosed herein advantageously produce a layer of ionomeric material having desirable physical properties, such as heat stability, and processability (excellent melt flow) without the need for blending high and low molecular weight acid-containing polymer(s)

Abstract: Multi-layered golf balls containing a dual-core structure are provided. The core structure includes an inner core (center) made from a foam or metal-containing composition, or it has a hollow shell construction, and the outer core layer is made of a thermoplastic composition. Preferably, the thermoplastic composition comprises: a) ethylene acid copolymer, b) plasticizer, and c) cation source. A fatty acid ester such as ethyl oleate is preferably used as the plasticizer. The core assembly preferably has a positive hardness gradient extending across the entire assembly. The core structure and resulting ball have relatively good resiliency at given compressions.

Abstract: Multi-piece golf balls having a solid core of at least one layer and cover of at least one layer are provided. Thermoplastic ethylene acid copolymer ionomer compositions are used to form the core layers. Preferably, the ball contains a dual-core having an inner core and surrounding outer core layer. Low modulus and high modulus ionomer compositions may be used in the core structure. In one embodiment, a first ionomer composition is used to form the inner core and a second ionomer composition is used to form the outer core, and the flex modulus of the first composition is greater than the flex modulus of the second composition. The ionomer compositions have varying levels of hardness. The resulting ball has high resiliency and rebounding properties.

Abstract: A golf ball includes a core having an outer surface and a geometric center; an inner cover layer, and an outer cover layer. The inner cover layer includes an ionomeric material and has a material hardness of about 60 Shore D or greater. The outer cover layer is formed from a polyurea or polyurethane and has a material hardness of about 60 Shore M or greater. The outer surface of the core has a hardness of about 68 to 92 Shore C. The geometric center of the core has a hardness of about 45 to 85 Shore C. The core outer surface hardness is greater than the geometric center hardness by about 5 to 21 Shore C to define a positive hardness gradient.

Abstract: A golf ball includes a unitary core having an outer surface, a geometric center, and a soft transition region adjacent to the outer surface. The core is formed from a substantially homogenous rubber composition. The golf ball also includes an inner cover layer and an outer cover layer. The soft transition region has a thickness of up to 4 mm and a negative hardness gradient of about 5 Shore C to about 15 Shore C. The unitary core has an overall negative hardness gradient of up to 20 Shore C.

Abstract: Golf ball incorporating polymer composition comprising: (i) a reaction mixture of ethylene-acid copolymer and C3-8 α, β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid(s); and (ii) poly-hydroxy crosslinking agent(s) such as polyvinyl alcohol, diols, glycols, sugar alcohols, and/or glycerols. Concentration of poly-hydroxy crosslinking agent(s) in polymer composition may be up to about 10% (or up to about 5%, or from 0.1% to about 2.5%, or from about 0.05% to 0.95%), by weight, based on 100% total weight of polymer composition. Reaction mixture may further comprise cation source and optionally organic acid(s) or salt thereof. Reaction mixture or polymer composition may include adjuvant(s). such as a silane compound, for example N-(2-aminoethyl-3 aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane and/or 3-glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane, in concentration of from 0.025% to 1.0% by weight, based on 100% total weight of reaction mixture or in concentration of up to 10% by weight, based on 100% total weight of the polymer composition.

Abstract: A golf ball includes a core and a cover. The core has an outer surface, a geometric center, and a soft transition region adjacent to the outer surface. The soft transition region has a thickness of 4 mm or less, includes about 10 to 30% trans-polybutadiene isomer, and has a positive hardness gradient of about 10 Shore C or less. The cover layer has a hardness of about 50 Shore M or greater. The core has a positive hardness gradient of about 10 to 42 Shore C. A secondary gradient quotient, GQ′, from about 2.2 to 9.5, GQ′ being defined by the equation: G ′ + T 10 × COR where G′ is the core positive hardness gradient in Shore C, T is the percent of trans-polybutadiene isomer at the core outer surface, and COR is the coefficient of restitution of the core measured at an incoming velocity of 125 ft/s.
