Abstract:
A perfluoropolyether, a composition comprising the perfluoropolyether, a process for producing the perfluoropolyether, and a process for improving the thermostability of grease or lubricant are provided. The perfluoropolyether comprises perfluoroalkyl radical end groups in which the radical has at least 3 carbon atoms per radical and is substantially free of perfluoromethyl and perfluoroethyl end groups. The process for producing the perfluoropolyether can comprise (1) contacting a perfluoro acid halide, a C2- to C4-substituted ethyl epoxide, or a C3+ fluoroketone with a metal halide to produce an alkoxide; (2) contacting the alkoxide with either hexafluoropropylene oxide or tetrafluorooxetane to produce a second acid halide; (3) esterifying the second acid halide to an ester; (4) reducing the ester to its corresponding alcohol; (5) converting the alcohol with a base to a salt form; (6) contacting the salt form with a C3 or higher olefin to produce a fluoropolyether; and (7) fluorinating the fluoropolyether. The process for improving the thermostability of a grease or lubricant comprises combining the grease or lubricant with the composition.

According to the invention there is provided a liquid friction control composition characterized as either having a high and positive friction characteristic or a low and neutral friction characteristic, comprising a retentivity agent. The liquid friction control composition may also comprise other components such as a solid lubricant, a wetting agent, a consistency modifier, and a preservative. The liquid friction control compositions may be used to modify the interfacial friction characteristics in sliding and rolling-sliding contact such as steel wheel-rail systems including mass transit and freight systems.
Abstract:
Antimicrobial lubricant compositions are disclosed. The antimicrobial lubricant compositions are particularly useful in providing antimicrobial capability to a wide-range of medical devices. The compositions include an oil lubricant. Representative lubricants may include polydimethyl siloxane, trifluoropropyl copolymer polysiloxane, and a copolymer of dimethylsiloxane and trifluoropropylmethylsiloxane. The compositions include rheology modifiers as necessary. The compositions also include antimicrobial agents, which may be selected from a wide array of agents. Representative antimicrobial agents include of aldehydes, anilides, biguanides, bis-phenols, quaternary ammonium compounds, cetyl pyridium chloride, cetrimide, alexidine, chlorhexidine diacetate, benzalkonium chloride, and o-phthalaldehyde.

Abstract:
A grease composition comprising a lubricant base oil and a metal dithiocarbamate represented by the formula (1): wherein R to R may be the same or different and each stands for a hydrocarbon group having 10 to 20 carbon atoms, and X stands for a metal or a metal-containing group. The composition has long life even when used at a high temperature, is not harmful to humans and the environment, and can give an extended anti-flaking life to the rolling bearing.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clarify chemical instability that occurs when a refrigerant HFO-1234yf with a double bond in a molecule contacts with metal, and to provide a member for forming a refrigerating circuit with a metal surface taking measures for eliminating the chemical instability based on the clarification. SOLUTION: The member for forming the refrigerating circuit with the metal surface is used for the refrigerating circuit using the specific refrigerant HF-1234yf formed of the molecule with the double bond. The metal surface contacted with the HFO-1234yf is coated by a coating layer substantially unreactive to the HFO-1234yf within a use temperature range. The coating layer is formed of one of a coating fixed on the metal surface, a coating layer formed by the adhesion of a specific component added in a lubricating oil, and a coating layer in which a metal surface layer forming the metal surface itself is modified. A lubricating grease composed of a base oil combination comprising 10 to 35% of one or more poly alpha-olefins, 3 to 15% of one or more synthetic organic esters, 20 to 30% of one or more naphthenic oils, the remainder of the combination being one or more paraffinic oils, the percentages being by weight of the total base oil combination and the ratio of the weight of the ester(s) in the combination to the weight of the poly alpha-olefin(s) therein being not greater than 1:3; between 2 and 15 % by weight of the total grease of a lithium soap thickener, between 1 and 5% by weight of the total grease of a molybdenum dithiophospbate; between 1 and 5% by weight of the total grease of a zinc dialkyldithiophosphate; between 1 and 5% by weight of the total grease of a sulphur-free friction modifier, and some or all of the normal grease additives such as anti-oxidants, corrosion inhibitors, extreme pressure additives and tackiness agents.

A metal-working water or a metal-working composition which has excellent cooling and lubricating properties and does not exert a harmful influence on the environment. A metal-working water containing sodium ion and one or more kinds selected from the group consisting of fluoride ion, hydrogencarbonate ion and silicon and being adjusted to pH 6.0 to pH 10 can be used as a substitute for a conventional cutting oil. A metal-working composition including a metal-working water with such additive as a rust-preventive agent and being adjusted to pH 6.0 to pH 10 can also be used.
