Abstract:
Disperse dyeable compositions of ethylene alkylacrylate grafted onto polyolefin (isotactic polypropylene) are provided. A process for disperse dyeing polyolefin (isotactic polypropylene) shaped into articles such as fibers is provided. This process comprises (1) extruding the polyolefin with about 2 to 30 percent by weight of a thermoplastic copolymer of ethylene and alkylacrylates having one or four carbons in the alkyl group into fibers, and (2) exposing the fibers to a disperse dye bath containing a disperse dye.

The compounds of the formula (I) are effective in stabilizing an organic material against thermal, oxidative and light-induced degradation.
Abstract:
A coated molded article having good adhesion to a coating film and resistance to gasohol as well as excellent appearance can be obtained by applying a primer coating to the surface of a molded article or irradiating the surface with plasma without applying any washing-treatment with a halogen atom-containing organic solvent and then applying a top coat onto the article, if the molded article is formed from a resin composition comprising (A)a polypropylene; (B)a specific ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer rubber; (C) a specific ethylene-propylene copolymer rubber; and (D) a specific polyhydroxypolyolefin, the amounts of these components (A) to (D) satisfying the following relations:10.ltoreq.[(B)+(C)]/[(A)+(B)+(C)].ltoreq.60 (% by weight)1.ltoreq.(C)/[(B)+(C)].ltoreq.50 (% by weight)0.5.ltoreq.(D)/[(A)+(B)+(C)+(D)].ltoreq.10 (% by weight)
Abstract:
Oxidatively stabilized polyolefin polymers containing an antioxidant are made more resistant to loss of antioxidant by converting at least some of the antioxidant comprising a polymer of dicyclopentadiene and a phenolic compound into a form non extractable with cyclohexane. The conversion is preferably by reaction in the melt phase in the presence of a radical initiator. Addition of organotin esters, sulphides, oxides or thioethers reduces the color.

Abstract:
The ultraviolet light stability of polyphenylene ether resins and blends is improved by the addition of small amounts of ortho-hydroxy-substituted alkoxybenzophenones and tetraalkyl dipiperidinyl aliphatic diesters in combination, as described. Plasticized, flame retardant and mineral filled versions are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Mixtures of a polymer which contains polyalkylpiperidines chemically bonded in any form and a metal compound MeL.sub.w, in which Me is a divalent or trivalent metal ion or a divalent oxo-metal ion or a divalent dialkyl-tin ion, L is the monovalent anion of a carboxylic acid, of a phosphinic acid or of a phosphonic acid monoester or of an enol and w is 2 or 3, are effective light stabilizers for plastics. The piperidine-containing polymers can be, for example, polyesters, polyamides, polyamines, polyaminotriazines or poly(meth)-acrylates. Examples of metal compounds MeL.sub.w are nickel oenanthate or nickel acetylacetonate. Plastics to be stabilized are in particular the polyolefins.
Abstract:
The present disclosure is directed to methods of converting food waste to polymers comprising poly(lactic) acid and an additive and biodegradable products thereof. The methods include providing a feedstock comprising food waste, hydrolyzing the feedstock with an enzyme and fermenting the feedstock with a microbe to produce a mixture, isolating lactic acid from the mixture, converting the lactic acid to poly(lactic) acid, adding, reacting, grafting, and/or cross-linking an additive to the poly(lactic) acid to produce a polymer mixture, and forming the polymer with the polymer mixture.
