Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the error correction capability of an error correction technique.SOLUTION: In an error correction device, an error correction circuit of each stage includes a calculation circuit, a determination circuit and a correction circuit. The calculation circuit calculates a reliability of a codeword as a scale indicating the level of the possibility of errors in correcting the codeword. The determination circuit compares the reliability of the codeword calculated by the calculation circuit with a threshold, and determines whether or not the error correction circuit of the stage should correct the codeword in accordance with the result of comparison. The correction circuit corrects the codeword if the determination result indicates that the error correction circuit of the stage should make corrections. If the determination result indicates that the error correction circuit of the stage should not make any corrections, the succeeding error correction circuit redetermines whether or not to correct the codeword.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for supervising a potentially-gated channel. SOLUTION: A mobile station maintains a counter of consecutive improper frames, CNT 1 (224), and a counter of consecutive proper frames, CNT 2 (226). CNT 1 and CNT 2 are set to zero at the beginning of a call. Whenever each frame is received, the mobile station 4 determines whether it is a proper frame, an improper frame or an empty frame. When the received frame is a proper frame, CNT 1 is reset to zero and CNT 2 is incremented by one. When the received frame is an improper frame, CNT 1 is incremented by one and CNT 2 is reset to zero. When the received frame is an empty frame, CNT 1 and CNT 2 are unchanged. When CNT 1 reaches a threshold TH1, the mobile station 4 disables its transmitter. Thereafter, when CNT 2 reaches a threshold TH2, the mobile station re-enables its transmitter. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent rate determination algorithm errors from causing audible artifacts such as screeches or beeps, in a system and method for detection of rate determination algorithm errors in variable rate communications system receivers. SOLUTION: The disclosed system and method detects frames with incorrectly determined data rates and performs frame erasure processing and/or memory state clean up to prevent propagation of distortion across multiple frames. Frames with incorrectly determined data rates are detected by checking illegal rate transitions, reserved bits, validating unused filter type bit combinations and analyzing relationships between fixed code-book gains and linear prediction coefficient gains. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for estimating a bit error rate of communication data. SOLUTION: The apparatus (64) for a receiver (32) receives the sequence of digital data received from a transmission station (12), and data is constituted of symbols unknown before they are received by the receiver (32). The apparatus (64) is provided with a detector (76) and an accumulator (78). The detector (76) is configured to receive the index of a confidence level related to the detected value of the sequence of digital data and is configured to detect whether or not the confidence level is below a selected threshold. The accumulator (78) is configured to receive the index of detection carried out by the detector (76) and accumulates the count of the detected value of the sequence having the confidence level below the selected threshold. Abstract:
An apparatus and method of detecting whether data exists in a received signal while a mobile communication terminal is in discontinuous transmission mode is disclosed. The apparatus and method comprises generating and transmitting a forward power control command for providing the forward power control, and performing forward power control in a mobile communication system. According to the forward power control method, a power control command is generated based on a received frame including a plurality of slots each of which includes power control bits. The ratio of the power control bit energy to noise energy, which is given by a ratio of the accumulated energy of the power control bits in the slots of the received frame to an accumulated energy value of noise in the slots of the received frame, is provided, and the power control command based on a ratio of the accumulated energy value of traffic symbol bits in the slots to the accumulated energy value of the power control bits is generated when the provided ratio of the power control bits to noise is acceptable.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for protecting an error of a multi-mode vocoder signal. SOLUTION: The method allows a different CRC code to be used for each mode of a transmitting multi-mode vocoder. A receiving multi-mode vocoder checks the CRC code against the CRC coding formulas of the various modes. If the CRC code is satisfied under any one of the modes, the frame is labeled as "good". If the CRC code fails under all the modes, the frame is labeled as "bad". If the bit frame includes bits for indicating the mode of the transmitting multi-mode vocoder, the receiving multi-mode vocoder checks (compares) the CRC code against the CRC coding formula for the indicated mode only. If the CRC code passes for the indicated mode, the frame is labeled as "good", otherwise, the frame is labeled as "bad". COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
