Abstract:
Waterborne lubricants comprising: (A) water-soluble inorganic salt; (B) homogeneously dispersed solid lubricant; (C) at least one homogeneously emulsified substance selected from mineral oils, animal and plant oils and fats, and synthetic oils; (D) surfactant; and (E) water, in which the weight ratio (B)/(A) is from 0.05:1 to 2:1 and the weight ratio {C/(A+B)} is from 0.05:1 to 1:1, provide a one-step, highly lubricating waterborne lubricant for use in the cold plastic working of metals. This waterborne lubricant can replace the conversion coating treatment (phosphate, oxalate, etc.)+reactive soap treatment combined lubrication system now in general use and is free of the environmental issues associated with the combined lubrication system, provides for facile coating removal, and is not subject to the decline in seizure resistance caused by nonuniform add-on when large numbers of workpieces are treated together by immersion.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a lubricant which can be used as a mandrel lubricant with a content of 75 to 90 wt. % of graphite and contains 1 to 10 wt. % of a phosphate. Said lubricant can also contain 1 to 4 wt % alkali silicate, 1 to 10 wt. % bentonite, 0.5 to 1 wt. % silico-phosphate and common solid lubricants. Said lubricant is preferably used as an aqueous suspension with a solid content of 20 to 40 wt. %.
Abstract:
Aqueous liquid treatment compositions comprising as active ingredients boric acid and condensed phosphate ions can form iron phosphate containing conversion coatings on ferriferous substrates at rates of at least 0.3 g/m.sup.2 /min. The coatings are useful as cold working lubricants, either as such or after overcoating with a supplemental lubricant.
Abstract:
Low bleed silicone grease compositions are prepared by blending high viscosity silicone oils with filler materials and/or silicone elastomers. Greases comprise three main types: I) grease comprising high viscosity silicone oil and filler material, II) grease comprising high viscosity silicone oil and silicone elastomer, and III) grease comprising high molecular weight silicone oil and filler material and silicone elastomer.
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to improved gel/grease compositions as well as grease compositions capable of imparting improved corrosion resistance. The grease includes a silica/silicate mixture that can imparts a relatively high pH and corrosion resistant properties to the grease.
Abstract:
Aqueous external release agent for pneumatic tires which contains a fatty alcohol polyglycol ether and conductive carbon black, for establishing the electrical resistance of the tire.
Abstract:
A dilatancy liquid is a sol under a low shear stress and a gel under a high shear stress, and includes inorganic particles having a roundness of 1.1 or less, and a particle diameter of from 0.05 to 5 .mu.m, and a liquid held among the inorganic particles. The dilatancy liquid is of high mechanical strength, and exhibits a low viscosity under a low shear stress and a high viscosity under a high shear stress; namely: it exhibits a large viscous-resistance variation by a shear-stress increment.
Abstract:
An oil-soluble reaction product of phosphorus-, low molecular weight basic nitrogen-, and optional boron-containing compounds is provided. This reaction product can solubilize significantly more phosphorus and boron per weight of compound than other known compounds and is used as an antiwear, antioxidant, and extreme pressure additive in lubrication oils.
Abstract:
A swash plate type compressor having a cylinder block with cylinder bores disposed parallel to the axis of the cylinder block. A rotary shaft rotatably mounted within the cylinder block carries an aluminum swash plate. The swash plate is fixed to the rotary shaft and has two facial surfaces and an end surface. The facial surfaces have a coating of between 0.0005 inches to 0.002 inches of a heat curable, cross-linked polyfluoro elastomer bonded directly to the aluminum, a lubricious additive and a load bearing additive. A piston reciprocally fitted within the cylinder bore contains shoes which slideably intervene between the piston and the swash plate facial surfaces and reciprocate the pistons by rotation of the swash plate. The coating on the swash plate permits the use of slow silicon alloy aluminum without the need of metal plating or high finish polishing.
Abstract:
A lubricant for metal working comprising a dicarboxylic acid represented by the following general formula (I) or its amine salt or its alkali metal salt and a sulfur extreme pressure agent: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 stands for COOH or H; and R.sub.2 stands for H when R.sub.1 is COOH and COOH when R.sub.1 is H.
