Abstract: A squeeze type printer for papers or stacks of papers having varying thicknesses wherein a printing platen is advanced to impress the paper against type bearing members by a yieldably driven cam element connected in series with a positively driven cam element. The yieldably driven cam element is self-locking and acts to advance the paper or paper stack against the type bearing member. Concurrently, the positively driven cam element acts to further advance the paper to cause the printing impression.

Abstract: 1400628 Retractive switches ADDMASTER CORP 23 Oct 1972 [22 Oct 1971] 48798/72 Heading H1N In a push-button key switch, the moving contact comprises an expandable conducting toroidal spring 27, Fig. 1, surrounding a conical actuator portion 25 of the key 21 and resting on an insulator disc 16 whereby on depression of the key 21 the spring 27 is expanded over the edge 28 of the disc 16 to bridge two or more contacts 13, 14. In the particular embodiment the contacts 13 14, are part of a printed circuit board 12 having an enlarged aperture 15 for a hub 16 of the disc 17 which acts as a guide for a reduced end portion 19 of the key 21. The conical portion 25 may be convex (as shown) or have straight or concave sides depending upon the feel characteristics required on the button 21. Additional guide supports on the button is provided by a rectangular section hole 23 in a base member 24 co-operating with a rectangular guide portion 20 of the button. The arrangement is stated to avoid contact bounce and unnecessary wear on the contacts 13, 14, 27 which are flash coated with gold, platinum or other precious metal to a thickness of 0À00050 inches.

Abstract: A key switch incorporated with a printed circuit board having conductors thereon and a bearing member loosely fitted in a hole formed between adjacent terminal ends of the conductors. A depressible key is slideable in the bearing member and has a generally conical surface engaging an expandable toroidal contact spring member which rests on an outwardly tapering surface of the bearing member. As the key is depressed the conical surface thereof expands the spring member downwardly over the surface of the bearing member and into bridging contact with the conductors.

Abstract: 1312331 Calculating machine with fraction key ADDMASTER CORP 29 April 1970 20639/70 Heading G4B A calculating machine including a pin carriage is arranged so that depression of a fraction key (additional to the normal ten keys) is blocked when the carriage is in its home position. The machine is generally similar to that disclosed in Specifications 975,856 and 971,662. Keys (12), Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), corresponding to digits 0-9 operate through cables (26) on pin carriage (16). When the carriage is in its home position, a lever 61, Fig. 5, prevents depression of stem 15a of key 15, corresponding to ¢ of a unit. When the carriage moves from its home position, a lever 55, Fig. 3, pivots anticlockwise to move a boss 67 which thus allows springs 63, 65, to pivot lever 61 from its blocking position and to pivot a lever 60 so that face 70 (see also, Fig. 5) bears against stem 15a. Subsequent operation of key 15 results in lever 60 coacting with notch 71 to hold the key depressed until the carriage is returned to its home position, whereupon boss 67 pivots levers 60, 61 back to their Fig. 5 position. In addition to the normal printing wheels 35, an additional wheel 40, Fig. 4, bearing the "¢" type character 41 is provided. In the home position of the carriage, wheel 40 is free to turn for totalling purposes. Movement of the carriage from home results in lug 74, borne by a spring-urged slide 75, blocking wheel 40 through a lug 73. Operation of the "¢" key 15 rotates bellerank 81, Fig. 4, to move a slide 84 formed with a camming surface 86, Fig. 3. This surface co-operates with a pin 87 on slide 75 to move the slide back to its unblocking position. Wheel 40 is then free to be rotated clockwise by universal bar 43 for printing.

Abstract: 1,221,755. Ten key calculating machine. ADDMASTER CORP. 19 March, 1969 [24 April, 1968], No. 14452/69. Heading G4B. A ten key cyclically operated calculating machine having differential actuators 26 and a movable stop-pin carriage 13 has co-operating surfaces 61, 62, respectively, on the actuators and pins 14 which cam set-pins from their set positions so as to enable the carriage to move back to its original position before the actuators have been fully retracted. The machine is a modification of that disclosed in Specifications 971,662 and 975,856. Each actuator 26 has a chamfered edge 61 as have two adjacent gear teeth 35 at point 59 so that the edges engage with the chamfered edges 62 of the set stop pins 14 and the pins are cammed over the actuators. Where a pin is not cammed by an actuator it is cammed into its retracted position by a stationary cam member on the machine frame.

Abstract: 1496914 Selective printing ADDMASTER CORP 25 July 1975 [25 July 1974] 31263/75 Heading B6F Compensation for the thickness of a record medium located between a type character and a platen 37 is achieved by a yieldable drive which moves the character and platen together to engage the record medium and a positive drive to effect impression. As shown only the platen 37 is moved. A drive from a motor to shaft 46 is transmitted to a friction clutch 52 and onward through gears 55, 63 to rotate eccentrics 60, 66 until the platen holds the record medium (31) against type wheels (11), Fig. 1 (not shown); thereafter clutch 52 slips. Simultaneously the drive to shaft 41 is transmitted via gears 67, 68, 70 to rotate eccentrics 40 and thereby impress the record medium against the type wheels. Following impression the eccentrics 40 rotate on to their starting position. However the eccentrics 60, 66 are self-locking and have to be withdrawn by a reverse rotation of the shaft 51 effected by the partially toothed gears 71, 50 coming into engagement. Line spacing, which can be of variable increments, is controlled by an electromagnet (98), Fig. 14 (not shown), which when pulsed steps a gear 80 so that gear 76 driving paper rolls (33), Fig. 1 (not shown) is rotated towards the end of the impression cycle. To permit viewing of the printing line, gear 75 (with only three teeth) engages the gear 76 to reverse feed the paper by three lines early in the printing cycle and towards the end of the cycle three lines of forward feed is produced by three toothed gear 77 engaging gear 76 via gear 78.
