    Abstract: An apparatus is for use in a vascular space in a body. A catheter has a lumen adapted for communicating fluid between a distal end for insertion in the vascular space and a proximal end. A transducer is adapted for removably connecting to the catheter for contacting the fluid and transmitting energy through the fluid in the lumen for dissolving an obstruction therein. A suction is provided for removing any debris from the obstruction in the lumen of the catheter. The wave guide may be tubular, and may have a length corresponding to the length of the lumen. A catheter or an implantable port including an embedded ultrasonic transducer is also provided.

    Abstract: An apparatus for treating a lesion in a vasculature has a catheter shaft (12) with a plurality of openings (16), which may be axially spaced. One or more cutters (18,18′) are adapted for moving from a retraced position to a deployed position projecting from one of the plurality of openings for cutting the lesion, such as by being biased toward the opening and retracting upon engaging a leading edge thereof when the support is advanced proximally. A shaft forming part of the catheter may include a plurality of lateral openings and a plurality of cutters. The cutter(s) may be attached to a support adapted for moving independently within the shaft from a first position in which the cutter(s) move to a deployed position to project from a corresponding one of the plurality of openings for cutting the lesion. Related methods are also disclosed.

    Abstract: Embodiments of a surgical instrument and its methods of use are disclosed. The disclosed embodiments of a surgical instrument may include a handle and an elongated shaft assembly distally extending from the handle. The elongated shaft assembly may include an articulable portion. An articulation control may be associated with the elongated shaft assembly. The articulation control may be movable between a first position in which the elongated shaft assembly is arranged in a first articulation position and a second position in which the elongated shaft assembly is arranged in a second articulation position. The surgical instrument may include a fastener deployment system with a locking member. The articulation control may block movement of the locking member when the articulation control is located in the first position. The articulation control may also permit movement of the locking member when the articulation control is located in the second position.

    Abstract: An ultrasonic system includes an ultrasonic device having an ultrasonic transducer, and a core wire having a proximal end coupled to the ultrasonic transducer and a distal end portion that terminates at a distal tip. An ultrasonic energy source is electrically connected to the ultrasonic transducer. The ultrasonic energy source includes an ultrasonic signal generator circuit, a modulator circuit, and a controller. The ultrasonic signal generator circuit generates an ultrasonic electrical signal. The modulator circuit amplitude modulates the ultrasonic electrical signal with a macro-motion electrical signal to generate a modulated ultrasonic electrical signal. The controller executes program instructions to select between an engagement mode and a transverse mode, wherein in the engagement mode the first ultrasonic electrical signal is supplied from the ultrasonic energy source to the ultrasonic transducer and in the transverse mode the modulated ultrasonic electrical signal is supplied from the ultrasonic energy source to the ultrasonic transducer.

    Abstract: A surgical fastener and a related deployment device as well as their methods of use are disclosed. In one embodiment, the deployment device includes one or more surgical fasteners including a head and a distally extending coil body attached to the head. The head includes a through hole with an internal thread. The deployment device also includes a mandrel including a threaded portion located at a distal end of the mandrel. The threaded portion is engaged with the internal thread of the one or more surgical fasteners. A rotator is associated with the one or more surgical fasteners such that the rotator can selectively rotate the one or more surgical fasteners relative to the mandrel to displace the one or more surgical fasteners in a distal direction.

    Abstract: A biopsy tract sealant applicator device includes a housing and a syringe having a body that is configured to move in an interior chamber of the housing between an extended position and a retracted position. The body is configured for connection to a biopsy cannula. A plunger of the syringe has a piston configured to move in a cylinder of the syringe between a proximal position and a distal position. The spring unit is coupled to the body of the syringe and to the housing. A gear train is operatively coupled to each of the housing, the body of the syringe, and the plunger of the syringe. The gear train is configured to move the plunger of the syringe from the proximal position toward the distal position as the body is moved from the extended position toward the retracted position by a biasing force exerted by the spring unit.

    Abstract: An embolus filter introducer system has a symmetric introducer sheath with a filter inside. The introducer sheath can be attached at either end to a deployment actuator. The deployment actuator can thereby be used to push the filter out of the introducer sheath. Since the sheath can be oriented in a selectable direction, so can the filter, allowing the sheath to be introduced via a jugular or femoral approach to the vena cava.

    Abstract: Surgical instruments and their methods of use are described. In one embodiment, a surgical instrument includes a power transmission including a trigger and a fastener driver operatively coupled to the trigger. Actuation of the trigger from a first configuration to a second configuration moves the fastener driver between at least a first position and a second position. Additionally, an actuation lockout system operatively associated with the power transmission is moveable between a locked configuration and an unlocked configuration. The actuation lockout system prevents movement of the fastener driver from the first position to the second position when the actuation lockout system is in the locked configuration. Actuation of the trigger from the first configuration towards the second configuration moves the actuation lockout system from the locked configuration to the unlocked configuration.
