Abstract: A card edge connector system includes a socket body 12 forming a socket 14 having opposing sides 16 and a bottom 19. A plurality of spring elements 20 are positioned along at least one of the opposing sides of the socket and form a plurality of spring fingers 22 flexing inwardly in the socket. A ground contact 40 is positioned on the bottom of the socket 14 and includes a spring finger 42 configured for flexing upwardly in the socket. A printed circuit board 26 having opposing sides 36, 38 and an edge 46 includes data signal patterns 32, 34 plated on a side of the board for handling a data signal. A ground pattern 62 is plated on each of the opposing sides of the board and a ground pattern 64 is plated on an edge of the board. Other ground layers 66 are positioned within the printed circuit board and electrically coupled with the ground patterns on the opposing sides and the ground pattern 64 on the edge of the board so that when the printed circuit board is received in the socket, the spring fingers engages the data signal pattern and the spring finger of the ground contact engages the edge of the board.

Abstract: A connector and shielding ring for use with the connector includes a male portion with a shroud and a center conductor and a female portion with a jack and a socket positioned to receive the center conductor. A conductive shielding ring is positioned between the mated connector portions. The shielding ring has a body configured for surrounding flexible tines of the female portion jack and is configured to be captured between the tines and the shroud for providing a grounding path between the male and female portions of the connector. The shielding ring body has an inner surface with a diameter and an outer surface with a diameter and has a taper portion formed on a distal end of the shielding ring body for engaging a surface of the shroud. The shielding ring body has a lip extending radially inwardly at the proximal end for engaging the tines of the female portion when the male and female portions of the connector are mated.

Abstract: An electrical connector including an electrically conductive shell sized to receive and retain an electrically insulating housing insert, where the housing insert includes a cavity for receiving and retaining a wire-terminating electrical contact therein. The shell and housing insert each including keying features designed to cooperate with one another to resist independent rotation of the housing insert within the shell. The electrical connector further includes a wire sealing grommet coupled to the housing insert to improve connector performance and minimize arcing issues.

Abstract: A cable includes at least one inner conductor and an insulation layer surrounding the inner conductor. An outer conductive layer surrounds the insulation layer and center conductor and includes a carbon nanotube substrate having opposing face surfaces and edges. One or more metals are applied as layer(s) to the opposing face surfaces and edges of the carbon nanotube substrate for forming a metallized carbon nanotube substrate. The metallized carbon nanotube substrate is wrapped to surround the insulation layer and center conductor for forming the outer conductive layer. Embodiments of the invention include a braid layer positioned over the outer conductive layer. The braid layer is woven from of plurality of carbon nanotube yarn elements made of a plurality of carbon nanotube filaments. The carbon nanotube filaments include a carbon nanotube core and metal applied as a layer on the carbon nanotube core for forming a metallized carbon nanotube filaments and yarns woven to form the braid layer.

Abstract: A connector or adaptive connector includes a first subassembly and a second subassembly with each subassembly including a center conductor and terminating at one end in a termination portion forming a connector portion. The subassemblies interface with each other to slide with respect to each other. A spring acts on each of the subassemblies to bias the subassemblies to slide away from each other and a sleeve contains the subassemblies and spring, the sleeve securing at least one of the subassemblies while allowing movement of the other of the subassemblies in the sleeve for varying the length of the connector. Each subassembly center conductor includes a respective portion of an electrical contact that cooperate to form a center conductor for the connector. The portions of the electrical contact are configured to slide relative to each other when the connector varies in length for maintaining an electrical signal path through the connector.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to an electrical connector having an electrical contact assembly housed within a cavity of a connector shell. The contact assembly includes a contact housing with a core extending in an axial direction and a plurality of fins radiating outwardly from the core, each of the fins separating adjacent housing-receiving cavities from one another. In an assembled configuration, a first plurality of electrical contacts is housed within a first housing receiving cavity and a second plurality of electrical contacts is housed within a second housing receiving cavity, where the first and second plurality of electrical contacts are different in type and structure from one another such that the electrical connector accommodates multiple contact layouts to improve overall functionality.

Abstract: An electrical connection system includes a mounting stud having a base configured for mounting to a conductive surface. One or more one ring-shaped lugs, formed of an electrically conductive material, are configured for being positioned on the mounting stud for surrounding the mounting stud. The ring-shaped lug includes one or a plurality of interior channels extending around the inside diameter thereof. A contact spring is seated within a respective interior channel and is electrically conductive and dimensioned to extend radially inwardly from the channel and contact the mounting stud when the ring-shaped lug is positioned thereon. The contact spring is configured to at least partially collapse in the radial direction and to provide a spring bias against the mounting stud for providing an electrical connection between the ring-shaped lug and mounting stud. A locking cap is positioned on the mounting stud over the at least one ring-shaped lug for locking with the mounting stud and securing the ring-shaped lugs on the mounting stud for a secure electrical connection.
