    Abstract: An acoustic honeycomb panel is plugged with an acoustic honeycomb plug. The acoustic honeycomb plug is adhesively bonded in the gpanel using a honeycomb seam. The honeycomb seam is composed of a honeycomb support that is located within the seam channel and an adhesive. Using honeycomb seams to adhesively bond acoustic honeycomb plugs into acoustic honeycomb panels is useful in repairing damaged areas of acoustic honeycomb panels that are located in the acoustic treatments for jet engines.

    Abstract: An acoustic structure having multiple degrees of acoustic freedom for reducing noise generated from a source. Acoustic septum caps, which are an integral part of the acoustic structure, include depth control portions that can be varied in width so that the septum portions of different septum caps can be located at different depths within the acoustic structure to provide an acoustic structure having multiple degrees of acoustic freedom even though the acoustic septum caps are anchored at the same depth within the structure.

    Abstract: Uncured thermosetting resins are loaded with relatively high amounts of solid thermoplastic resin particles to form a resin precursor. The resin precursor is heat treated so as to produce an uncured resin composition wherein the thermoplastic resin particles become substantially dissolved in the thermosetting resin without causing cure of the resin mixture. Heat treatment of highly loaded thermosetting resins in accordance with the present invention provides uncured resin compositions that are well suited for use in fabricating composite structures and particularly prepreg for use in lightning protection surface coatings.

    Abstract: An acoustic structure that includes a honeycomb having cells in which septum caps are located. The septum caps are formed from sheets of acoustic material and include a resonator portion and a flange portion. The flange portion has an anchoring surface that provides frictional engagement of the septum caps to the honeycomb cells when the caps are inserted into the honeycomb during fabrication of the acoustic structure. An adhesive is applied to the anchoring surface of the septum caps after the caps have been inserted into the honeycomb cells to provide a permanent bond.

    Abstract: Resin compositions are provided which are used in combination with fibers to form self-adhesive prepreg sheets (17, 19) that are applied to core materials (12) to form sandwich panels (10). The prepreg resin includes a thermoset resin, a curing agent and a viscosity control agent. The prepreg resin further includes certain thermoplastic particles which are used to conrol the flow characteristics of the prepreg resin and the formation of fillets during bonding of the prepreg to the core materials.

    Abstract: Thermally conductive non-metallic honeycomb structures (20, 30, 40) are provided as well as a novel co-corrugation process for their production. The thermal conductivity of the non-metallic honeycomb structures (20, 30, 40) is increased by incorporating unidirectional thermally conductive fibers (3, 38, 52) in the corrugated laminate sheets used to form the honeycomb. Thermally conductive fibers (3, 38, 52) are integrated in the laminate sheets as a unidirectional fiber prepreg which minimizes the number of broken fibers and allows controlled directional heat conductance through the honeycomb structure (20, 30, 40).
