Abstract:
A device (2) which allows for the input of visual, audio and/or auxiliary data, the processing of the data and storage of the data in the device. The device (2) is provided with a display screen (16) for the display of the visual data and/or speakers for the sounding of the audio data. The device (2) allows for the selected communication of the visual, audio and/or auxiliary data to and/or from a remote location either directly via a communications link or via a broadcast data receiver, and then via a communications link. The device (2) is of such size so as to be hand held and portable and can be located in a holder (10). The holder (10) can be provided with lighting means (12) to improve viewing of the display screen of the device and/or magnification means to allow data to be magnified and projected on a further surface (20) for viewing and/or audio means to allow for the generation of sound from received audio data.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a television or electronic program guide (EPG) of the type which is displayed on the screen of a television set to indicate channels, and programs, which are available for viewing over a time period indicated by a time bar (4). In accordance with the invention the length of the program is indicated by a cell in a displayed grid (2) and, if the program has started or will finish prior to or after the time period displayed, a display is generated which indicates to the viewer the time which has lapsed since the program started or the time remaining of the program.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a data device said device incorporating a plurality of reception areas each provided with connections to data processing means in the device, and each provided for the reception of a carrier which can include thereon a memory and/or processing component which can be selectively inserted in position by the user of said device, to allow the selective access of data from the carrier. The carriers can be provided by, for example, retail organisations and the device can be operated to allow the selective utilisation of a carrier of a particular organisation in processing, transmitting or receiving data to and from that particular organisation. There is thus no need for a separate data device to be provided for each retail organisation.
Abstract:
Electrical apparatus comprising a number of components or functions is connected to a control system by a ribbon cable. The ribbon cable includes a first line, which carries a signal or data to control the operation of a first component or function, and at least a second line, which carries a signal or data to control the operation of at least a second component or function. An additional signal or data is injected along the first line from the control system which has the effect of reducing the effect of noise from the signal or data passing along the at least second line, on the signal or data passing along the first line.
Abstract:
A foot (2) for attachment to apparatus to support and space said apparatus from a support surface, said foot (2) including a first resilient member (4) , and a second compressible member (6) for dampening vibration, arranged such that when placed under load the foot (2) is moved from a configuration in which the second members (6) are in contact with the support surface, to a configuration in which both first and second members are in contact with the support surface, the second members (6) being compressed to the level of the first members (4) .
Abstract:
Electrical apparatus is provided including a housing for containing one or more electrical components therein. The housing has at least one connector means (29) for allowing the connection of at least one electrical cable thereto. Channel means (28) are provided adjacent the connector means for containing at least a part of the electrical cable adjacent a connection end thereof which is to be connected to the connector means on the housing in use.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method, system and apparatus, for the reception, processing and storage of data received by a broadcast data receiver, saved data allowing the subsequent generation of video and audio for television programs and also including data for interactive facilities typically relating to said programs. Upon the user selection to record a program by storing data in a memory means, the related interactive data is also stored. The interactive data is typically broadcast in a carousel format, (repeating data loops) and when stored the data for one loop is stored in a file and only any data change in subsequent lops is stored in further files, thereby using reduced storage space in the memory means.
Abstract:
A Broadcast data receiver is provided which is capable of receiving data relating to a number of television channels. The receiver is also able to generate an electronic programme guide (EPG) providing information relating to the television channels, programmes and/or other functions which are available for selection by a user of the apparatus. The user typically makes the selection using a remote control handset. The EPG is generated using a first source in the form of embedded code provided in the receiving apparatus and other functions of the apparatus/television set are generated using a second source in the form of software language provided in the receiving apparatus. The utilisation of the first and/or second source by the receiving apparatus is controlled in response to a user selection using the control means.
Abstract:
The invention provides a television system for receiving data broadcast to a number of broadcast data receivers at different locations. The broadcast data receivers generate video and audio from the received data to represent television programmes selectable by a user. The invention provides for the transmission of portions of data in addition to the data for the programmes available at that instant. The portions of data allow the generation of video and/or audio nulltrailersnull which represent a programme or service available for user selection and viewing in the future. The user can select the programme or service via the broadcast data received at the time of display of the video or audio trailer generated from the portion of data.
Abstract:
A broadcast data receiver (BDR) is provided with a web browser system. A service provided by the web browser system si selectable by a user of the BDR and, when selected, is controllable by the user via a remote control handset, thereby allowing an Internet web site page for display on a display screen connected to or forming part of the BDR to be determined and one or more user options can be selected if required. One or more icons are generated on at least a portion of the display screen and each of the icons represents a button on the remote control handset. Each icon is mapped to a specific control function or option of the web browser, thereby allowing user selection of a web browser control function or option by selection of the appropriate button on the remote control handset.
