    Abstract: A novel carpet construction provides a secondary backing layer (16) adhered to the primary backing layer (12) in which the carpet pile (14) is secured. The secondary backing layer (16) incorporates a layer of downwardly depending loops (18) which can serve as a resilient undersurface, in the manner of an underpad, and also to secure the laminated carpet structure to the floor. A hooked tape construction used in combination with the subject carpet (10) has a plurality of upwardly extending hooks to engage the looped layer of the carpet, and an adherent under surface, for making adhesive contact with the floor surface. The carpet construction can include a foam interlayer sandwiched between the primary and the secondary backing layers (12, 16). The hooked tape can be laid as a perimeter attachment surface, or in intermediate locations also.

    Abstract: A carpet structure and backing of superior dimensional stability and integrity which is especially useful in a free float system of installation. In one aspect of the invention, a carpet is provided having a selected dimensional stability in which there is (i) a first carpet part having a primary layer with pile substantially covering a first side of the layer, the pile tufted through the primary layer to leave tuft bundles on a second side of the primary layer and a binder encapsulating the tuft bundles, the first part having a predetermined force of expansion and contraction under cycling conditions of temperature and moisture; (ii) a second part in layered relationship to the first carpet part, the second carpet part constructed from one or more layers to have a predetermined resistance to expansion and contraction at least equal to or greater than the force of expansion and contraction of the first carpet part under cycling conditions of temperature and moisture and traffic loads on the carpet pile.

    Abstract: An anchor board construction system suitable for incorporation into the interior of buildings and homes is disclosed for use as a plaster based wall board (20) having one surface thereof incorporating a layer of protruding attachment hooks (24). These hooks can accept and retain decorative and functional surface finish units embodying a looped or other suitably "piled" posterior surface portion, for attachment to the hooks. For use, within a building as a wall system, the novel anchor boards are secured into position as an underlying wall layer, and a selected form of area finish embodying a complementary attachment surface is secured thereto simply by pressing into place. The area finish can be carpet tiles, wallpaper or fabric with looped backing or wood panelling. The system includes provision for trims, baseboards, cornice moldings, door moldings and outlet covers together with electrical conduit.
