Abstract:
Films of gallium manganese nitride are grown on a substrate by molecular beam epitaxy using solid source gallium and manganese and a nitrogen plasma. Hydrogen added to the plasma provides improved uniformity to the film which may be useful in spin-based electronics.
Abstract:
Provided are non-linear stimuli-responsive block copolymers, methods for synthesizing the block copolymers, and coating compositions comprising the block copolymers. In an embodiment, a composition is provided that comprises a non-linear stimuli-responsive block copolymer comprising a polyethylene glycol (PEG) block and a poly((2-dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) block, wherein the non-linear stimuli-responsive block copolymer comprises a core region and three or more branches extending away from the core region, wherein the three or more branches comprise a branch comprising the PEG block, a branch comprising the PDMAEMA block, a branch comprising both the PEG block and the PDMAEMA block, or a combination thereof.
Abstract:
Various embodiments provide a zinc oxide graphene composite. A zinc oxide graphene composite includes zinc oxide crystallites and graphene. A method of forming the composite includes combining graphene and zinc oxalate to form a mixture and heating the mixture to produce the zinc oxide graphene composite.
Abstract:
A caustic paste applicator provides a self-contained adhesive patch that supports a ring of adhesive that is adhered to the calf s skin around the horn bud and an inner spot or dab of caustic paste that is applied over the horn bud to contact the horn bud. The patch shields the caustic paste from spreading and allows the adhesive to be used in conjunction with the caustic paste in a manner which does not cause the patch to lose its stickiness.
Abstract:
A system of monitoring diffuse waves over a concrete beam under different loads. Ultrasound transmitters and receivers are placed over the concrete beam to emit sound waves and collect diffuse waves under different loads. The waveform variations are observed to quantify a decorrelation coefficient (DC) indicating global structural changes and crack position. An inversion of the correlations is applied to estimate distribution density at each localized position following the sensitivity kernel and inversion algorithms. Then, three-dimensional imaging comprised of density values at each localized position are generated to indicate number, position, and depth of multiple cracks.
Abstract:
An energy harvesting system can be used to exploit freely available flow energy with a piezoelectric device(s). The system may include a piezoelectric device and a flow disruptor, such as a blunt body that creates flow turbulence and flow characteristic randomization that can increase movement response from the piezoelectric device and enhance electrical power generation. Multiple piezoelectric devices may be linked to each other to enhance movement of a less-influenced piezoelectric device from translated movement of a more-influenced piezoelectric device and create more electrical power than a single piezoelectric device subjected to the same flowing fluid.

Abstract:
The invention provides a method of isolating one or more compounds present in fruit juice or seed extracts that have anti-microbial activity.
Abstract:
A single sweep eraser system allows cleaning of a whiteboard with a single, simple and rapid motion across the board. The system provides track brackets and glides that support a cleaning bar applying sufficient pressure to a cleaning pad extending the height of the board to provide broad area cleaning without the need for the user to “lean in” hard against the cleaning pad. The tracks conveniently hold the cleaning bar off to one side of the board for ready access.
Abstract:
Provided herein are monomeric variants of Sandercyanin fluorescent protein (SFP). Also provided herein are methods of making and using fluorescent probes comprising such monomeric variants, where the fluorescent probes have specificity for desired targets.
