Abstract: A composition comprising an extract of Prunus persica (L.) Batsch is provided to inhibit the formation of osteoclast and show the bone resorption inhibitory effect by the osteoclast by inhibiting the bond between RANKL(receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappaB ligand) of osteoblast and RANK(receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappaB) of the osteoclast, thereby being usefully used as a pharmaceutical composition and a health functional food for preventing and treating bone diseases. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating bone diseases comprises a crude extract, a polar solvent soluble extract or a non-polar solvent soluble extract of Prunus persica (L.) Batsch, wherein the bone diseases is osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, degenerative arthritis, disc, osteomalacia, rickets, or fibrous dysplasia, the polar solvent is water, ethanol, methanol or a mixture solvent thereof, and the non-polar solvent is ethylacetate or chloroform.
