    Abstract: PURPOSE: A catalyst for selective catalytic reduction of sulfur dioxide to sulfur in high space velocity by direct reduction is provided, and also a method for eliminating sulfur dioxide using the same is provided. CONSTITUTION: In the catalyst for selective catalytic reduction of sulfur dioxide to sulfur by the reaction of exhaust gas containing sulfur dioxide with reductive gases, the present invention is characterized in that an oxide composite comprising Nb and Fe is impregnated on a porous zirconia and/or titania support in an amount of not less than 3 wt.%, based on the weight of porous support. In the oxide composite, the molecular ratio of Fe to Nb is in the range of 0.1 to 0.9. This catalyst is suitable to the treatment of exhaust gas containing 0.1-10 vol.% of sulfur dioxide, and its selective catalytic reduction is optimized under conditions of a space velocity of 3,000 to 100,000h¬-1 and a temperature range of 350 to 600 deg.C.
