Abstract:
PURPOSE: A system for managing a package service in digital cable broadcasting and a method therefor are provided to remotely apply for the package service provided from a cable broadcasting provider and release the package service. CONSTITUTION: A headend unit(110) collects various information, and composes collected information as a broadcasting signal. A host(120) receives the broadcasting signal and bidirectional service information of the headend unit(110), and executes a package application program for providing a package service. A conditional access module(130) analyzes data received through an in-band channel or an out-band channel and conditional access data, and performs a conditional access operation so that a user watches or does not watch a channel composing a corresponding package using a key in which a message about package application and release is encoded. An operation/management unit(140) composes package association information as package configuration information, transmits package configuration information to the host(120) or the conditional access module(130), and records package service information of the user. A conditional access unit(150) generates an ECM(Entitlement Control Message) and an EMM(Entitlement Management Message) with respect to each channel-classified charged channel, transmits the ECM and the EMM to the conditional access module(130) through the headend unit(110), and transmits an encoded key of a subscriber according to the request of the conditional access module(130).

PURPOSE: A method for quickly adjusting an upstream power level in a DOCSIS cable modem is provided to effectively control an uplink channel power level during an initialization process of DOCSIS 3.0, thereby efficiently communicating the cable modem with a cable modem terminal system. CONSTITUTION: A cable modem receives an MDD(Mac Domain Descriptor) message after a SYNC message. The MDD message is divided into several messages(402) using TLV encoding information(403). The MDD message is transmitted from the cable modem terminal system to the cable modem. Information about upstream transmit power reporting(413) is defined in the TLV encoding information. A power level value is defined in an SSAP field of a management message header(401) during a ranging request message transmitting process.

PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for mutual authentication in a downloadable conditional access system are provided to defend each kind of attach resulting from a security threat when downloading a CAS software by securing the safety in key generation, message authentication and so on. CONSTITUTION: A DCAS(Downloadable Conditional Access System) comprises an authentication unit(110), a key management unit(130) and a download unit(140). The authentication unit transmits an authentication session key to a security module(200) through a CMTS(Cable Modem Termination System)(120). The key management unit generates and manages an authentication session key, and the download unit downloads and updates a CAS(Conditional Access System) software through the control of the security module.

A downloadable CAS(Conditional Access Service) manager system and a control method thereof are provided to offer a CAS by supporting authentication and CA image transfer to a preliminary subscriber terminal not passing a purchase process. A CA image file is received from a CAS system server and integrated image server access information is received from an integrated image server. Information related to the CA image file is provided to an authentication proxy. The authentication proxy is controlled. The integrated image server access information and image installation information are provided to a terminal when the terminal is subscribed for a charged service by checking device information of the terminal(S308). The integrated image server is controlled to allow the terminal to receive a terminal CA image code based on the access information and the image installation information(S310).

A method and an apparatus for scheduling uplink data in a CMTS(Cable Modem Termination System) using a channel combining scheme are provided to allocate uplink bandwidths according to preset service flow information and to create and transmit a bandwidth allocation MAP(Bandwith Allocation Map) message to instruct each cable modem to execute uplink transmission. A CMTS comprises a MAC(Media Access Control) protocol processing part(301), a MAC frame processing part(303), the first queue(305), a scheduler(307), the second queue(309), and an MAP message creation part(311). The MAC protocol processing part receives a bandwidth request message the DOCSIS(Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) MAC protocol stack of the CMTS requires, and converts it in a primitive format. The MAC frame processing part receives a bandwidth request message from a cable modem and converts it in the primitive format. The first queue temporarily stores the converted request messages. The scheduler collects the converted request messages in a preset order and creates a grant IE(Information Element). The second queue temporarily stores the created grant IE. The MAP message creation part creates a bandwidth allocation MAP message in accordance with the stored grant IE and a channel allocation counter.
