PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric conversion element capable of improving conversion efficiency. SOLUTION: The photoelectric conversion element includes a working electrode 10 having a pigment and a carrier that carries the pigment (for example, a metal oxide semiconductor layer 12). The pigment includes a cyanine compound. In the cyanine compound, at least one of heterocyclic ring skeletons bonded to both ends of a methine chain has a quinoline skeleton or a pyridine skeleton. Having the quinoline skeleton or the pyridine skeleton, the cyanine compound has broader light absorption wavelengths compared with the cyanine compound without those skeletons. Therefore, electronic injection efficiency to the carrier becomes high when light enters the pigment including the cyanine compound having the quinoline skeleton or the pyridine skeleton.
