Abstract: Reducing power consumption for cellular broadcast communication by a wireless device. A cellular communication channel for cellular broadcast messages may be monitored in a discontinuous manner according to specified cellular broadcast scheduling periods. Between each pair of cellular broadcast scheduling periods, the wireless device may operate in a reduced power state. During each cellular broadcast scheduling period, at least a cellular broadcast scheduling message may be received. If all scheduled cellular broadcast messages are received prior to an end of a cellular broadcast scheduling period, the wireless device may operate in the reduced power state for the remainder of that cellular broadcast scheduling period after all scheduled cellular broadcast messages are received.

Abstract: A method for resuming a voice call on a legacy network is provided. The method can include a wireless communication device establishing a voice call with a remote device over a first cellular network; determining that a connection quality of the first cellular network has dropped below a threshold connection quality; sending a notification that the wireless communication device is releasing the voice call to transition to a legacy cellular network and will resume the voice call on the legacy cellular network; releasing the voice call on the first cellular network; transitioning to the legacy cellular network; establishing a second voice call with the remote device on the legacy cellular network; and using the second voice call to resume the voice call with the remote device.

Abstract: A method for transitioning a video call is provided. The method can include a wireless communication device participating in a video call with a remote communication device via a first video call session established over a connection between the wireless communication device and a first cellular network. The video call can include a packet switched video stream carried over a first bearer and an audio stream carried over a second bearer. The method can further include the wireless communication device determining a degradation in a connection quality for the first cellular network; transitioning to a legacy cellular network having a circuit switched domain in response to the degradation in connection quality for the first cellular network; establishing a second video call session on the legacy cellular network; and using the second video call session to continue the video call on the legacy cellular network.

The method can include a wireless communication device participating in a video call with a remote device over a connection between the wireless communication device and a cellular network. The video call can include a first video stream carried over a first bearer on the cellular network and an audio stream carried over a second bearer on the cellular network. The method can further include the wireless communication device establishing a connection between the wireless communication device and a WLAN; performing a call setup procedure with the remote device to establish a second video stream over the WLAN; terminating the first video stream; and using the second video stream and the audio stream to continue the video call.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for a link budget limited UE to improve communications performance with a cellular network. The UE may perform signal to interference noise ratio (SINR) measurements and use these measurements to adjust a received signal power value that is provided to the cellular network as a received signal power measurement. The UE may generate the received signal power value based at least in part on the SINR measurement in order to reduce the likelihood of handover when the UE has good SINR but poor received signal power. The UE may also provide preferred configuration information to the base station which enhances the performance of the UE when link budget limited. The configuration information may specify one or more parameter values designed to provide improved performance for a link budget limited device.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) and network entity implement improved communication methods which enable a UE to operate using differing modes of operation without detaching from a network. The UE may send first information indicating its capabilities to the network entity and may receive a first indication based on the first information. The first indication may indicate that the UE operate according to a first mode of operation. The UE may receive a second indication based on an occurrence of a first condition detectable at the network entity. The second indication may indicate that the UE operate according to a second mode of operation different from the first mode of operation. The first condition may be an initialization of a real time data packet session for the UE or may be a first message sent by the UE in response to one or more radio conditions exceeding a threshold.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to broadcasting and receiving system information in a radio access network (RAN). In one embodiment, a base station includes at least one antenna, at least one radio, configured to perform cellular communication using a radio access technology (RAT), and one or more processors coupled to the radio. In this embodiment, the base station is configured to broadcast first system information blocks (SIBs) encoded using a first coding rate and a first identifier. In this embodiment, the base station is also configured to broadcast second SIBs encoded using a second coding rate that is lower than the first coding rate and a second identifier. In this embodiment, the second SIBs include only a portion of the information included in the first SIBs and the second SIBs are usable by user equipment devices (UEs) having a limited link budget to determine access parameters for the base station.
