The compounds of the invention have herbicidal activity.ALSO:Herbicidal compositions contain compounds of the general formula wherein R1 represents a methyl, methoxy or isobutynyl radical, R2 represents a C1 to C4 alkyl radical optionally substituted by a hydroxyl group, a C3 or C4 alkenyl radical bearing two or three chlorine atoms, or the 2, 3, 6-trichloro-benzyl radical, X represents a hydrogen or chlorine atom and the R2SCH2- and X-groups are in the m or p positions relative to the amido group, in admixture with conventional carriers. The compositions may also contain other, unspecified, active substances, fertilizers and emulsifiers and dispersing agents, e.g. the salts of alkylbenzene-sulphonic acids and of ammonium compounds, oxalkylated phenol derivatives and sodium lignin sulphonate.

    Abstract: The invention comprises urea derivatives of the formula:- in which R and R1 each denotes hydrogen or a C1-4 alkyl or alkenyl group, or together form part of a heterocyclic ring which, apart from the nitrogen atom to which R and R1 are attached, contains no further nitrogen atom as a member of said ring, e.g. a morpholine, pyrrolidine or piperidine ring. The compounds are prepared either by reacting isoamyl isocyanate with a secondary amine of the formula HNRR1, or by reacting isoamylamine with a carbamyl chloride of the formula ClOC-NRR1.ALSO:A herbicidal composition comprises, as an active ingredient, a urea derivative of the formula in which R and R1 each denotes hydrogen or a C1-4 alkyl or alkenyl group, or together form part of a heterocyclic ring which, apart from the nitrogen atom to which R and R1 are attached, contains no further nitrogen atom as a member of said ring, together with a solid or liquid diluent such as water in conjunction with optional amounts of surface-active agents, organic solvents (e.g. methanol, isopropanol, isobutanol, xylene, toluene, cresol and cyclohexanone), talc, bentonite, pyrophyllite, diatomaceous earth silica gel and calcium nitrate.
