Abstract: Derivatized carbon monoxide (CO) copolymers (DCOC) are produced by reacting functionalized, linear, highly alternating copolymers of CO, hydroxy- or amino-functional 1-alkenes (A) and optionally 2-20C 1-alkenes (B) with electrophilic organic compounds (C) in an aprotic organic solvent. A process for the production of DCOC starting from functionalized, linear, highly alternating copolymers of CO with (A) 1-alkene(s) comprising (A1) aryl compounds substituted with terminal allyl or homoallyl unit(s) and hydroxyl or amino group(s) or (A2) alpha -unsaturated aliphatic alcohols, and optionally (B) 2-20C 1-alkene(s). The process comprises reacting these functional copolymers with (C) organic compounds containing electrophilic groups, in an aprotic organic solvent. Independent claims are also included for (a) derivatized CO copolymers (DCOC) obtained by this process; (b) a process for the production of graft copolymers by reacting DCOC with nucleophilic organic compounds in aprotic organic solvents; (c) graft copolymers obtained by this process; and (d) the use of functionalized, linear carbon monoxide copolymers as above for the production of DCOC.
