Abstract: Polyhalogenated phthalocyanines containing 10-16 halogen atoms are conditioned by heating them at 60-220 DEG C. with 1-20 times their weight of an o-nitrophenol. In a preformed process a moist press-cake of the polyhalogenated phthalocyanin is heated with 2-4 times its weight of nitrophenol at 100-150 DEG C. in a closed vessel; after the treatment the nitrophenol may be converted to its water-soluble sodium salt and the pigment filtered off. The specified nitrophenols are o-nitrophenol and mixtures thereof with p-nitrophenol, as well as o-nitro-p-cresol and dinitrophenols. The halogen atoms may be Cl and/or Br. Examples are given.

Abstract: Linear polymers the chains of which contain two to sixty units of the formula: in which R1 and R2 are H, methyl or ethyl are prepared by reacting at 20-250 DEG C., 1 mol. of tin tetrachloride with a compound of the formula: Reaction may be performed in a liquid hydrocarbon to facilitate removal of heat. The cyclic monomeric starting materials may be produced according to Specification 933,365. Suitable ones are 3,3,9,9-tetramethyl-6-stanna-spiro-[5,5]-undecan and 3,9-dimethyl-3,9-diethyl-6-stanna-spiro-[5,5]-undecane.ALSO:Linear polymers the chains of which contain two to sixty units of the formula: in which R1 and R2 are H, methyl or ethyl are prepared by reacting, at 20 DEG to 250 DEG C., 1 mol of tin tetrachloride with 1 to 2 mols of a 6-stanna spiro-[5,5]-undecane of the formula: Reaction may be performed in a liquid hydrocarbon to facilitate removal of heat. Examples describe the production of polymers from 3, 3, 9, 9-tetramethyl -6- stanna-spiro-[5,5]-undecane. 3,9-dimethyl-3,9-diethyl -6- stanna-spiro- [5,5]-undecane is also mentioned as a suitable starting material. The cyclic monomeric tin compound can be made as described in Specification 933,365.

Abstract: Vinyl cyclohexane polymers of molecular weights from 10,000 to 2,000,000 are produced by hydrogenating in the liquid phase with hydrogen a homopolymer, copolymer or graft polymer of styrene or a mixture of polymers containing polystyrene of molecular weights from 10,000 to 2,000,000 at 50 DEG -270 DEG C. and a pressure of 10-1,000 atmospheres in the presence of a supported catalyst containing 0,01-95% of a Group VIII metal with an atomic weight exceeding 58, e.g. Ni, Co, Ru, Rh, Pd or Pt. The polystyrene may be prepared by thermal or ionic polymerization of styrene, e.g. in emulsion or suspension. Copolymers may contain butadiene, isobutylene, vinyl toluene, a methylstyrene, divinylbenzenes, ethylene, propylene, acrylic or methacrylic esters, vinyl esters or ethers, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, N-vinylcarbazole and/or mixtures. Hydrogenation is carried out using a melt or solution of the polymer, e.g. 5-25%, with hydrocarbons and/or saturated ethers or alcohols, e.g. cyclohexane, tetrahydrofurane, benzene. Carriers for the catalyst may be porous substances, e.g. C, Al2O3, pumice, kieselguhr, silica gel, and promoters, e.g. Cr, Cu, Mn or cerium oxide, may be used for Ni and Co catalysts. The process may be continuous, e.g. using a suspended catalyst which may be recycled. The vinyl cyclohexane may be pressed into sheets or moulded.
