Abstract: 587827 A method and an apparatus for uplink communications from a wireless terminal (14) to a network over a radio interface are disclosed. The apparatus comprises radio circuitry (32) for communicating with the network, a buffer (36) that stores data and a controller (38). The controller is configured to detect data in the buffer to be transmitted by the wireless terminal, to determine a priority associated with the detected data; to determine that a future uplink radio resource is scheduled for use by the wireless terminal; to transmit an uplink transmission scheduling request to the network if the determined priority is a first priority; and to transmit the data using the future uplink radio resource when the determined priority is the second priority. Also disclosed is a base station (12) for use with the wireless terminal (14) comprising an uplink transmissions scheduler (18) coupled to radio communications circuitry (20). The uplink transmissions scheduler is configured to receive and grant scheduling requests and receive data transmitted using the uplink grant.

Abstract: Aspects of the present invention relate to the scheduling of resources in a telecommunication system that includes a mobile terminal and base station. In one embodiment, the mobile terminal sends an initial scheduling request to a base station. Subsequently, the mobile terminal does not transmit a scheduling request to the base station unless and until a scheduling request triggering event is detected.
