Abstract: An example system for detecting mud pulses may include a distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) data collection system coupled to a downhole drilling system, and an information handling system communicably coupled to the DAS data collection system. The information handling system may include a processor and memory coupled to the processor. The memory may contain a set of instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to receive quadrature DAS data signals from the DAS data collection system, determine a first template signal associated with mud pulses, transform the determined first template signal into analytic representation form, perform a matched filter operation using the quadrature DAS data signals and the transformed first template signal, and analyze an output signal of the matched filter operation to detect mud pulses in the downhole drilling system.

Abstract: Determining a type of annular material in a wellbore comprises measuring an acoustic noise of one or more reference materials and thereby generating a corresponding one or more acoustic profiles, monitoring the annular material with an acoustic sensor positioned in the wellbore and thereby obtaining an acoustic response of the annular material, comparing the acoustic response with the one or more acoustic profiles using a processor communicably coupled to the acoustic sensor, and characterizing the annular material based on the comparison of the acoustic response and the one or more acoustic profiles.

A fiber optic cable can transmit the optical signal generated by the light source. A fiber reel can dispense the fiber optic cable from an end of the fiber optic cable.

Abstract: A method includes obtaining distributed measurements of acoustic energy as a function of time and position downhole. The method also includes deriving acoustic activity values as a function of time and position from the one or more distributed measurements. The method also includes predicting fluid flow for a downhole perforation cluster as a function of time, wherein predicting fluid flow involves a flow prediction model that is a function of perforation cluster geometry, fluid characteristics, and at least one of the acoustic activity values. The method also includes storing or displaying the predicted fluid flow.

Abstract: A method of measuring fluid flow conditions in a wellbore includes generating an acoustic probe signal during fluid flow along the wellbore, measuring the performance attribute of the acoustic probe signal within a target frequency range, and of the fluid medium in at least a part of the wellbore based on the measured performance parameters. The target frequency range of the acoustic probe signal encompasses a bubble resonance frequency range for vapor bubbles in the wellbore, for example having frequencies in excess of 20 kHz. An estimated bubble size value may be calculated based on determining a frequency at which the measured probe signal experiences the retardation or peak attenuation.

The optical modulators modulate a signal received from the one or more sensors and direct the modulated signal to the acoustic vibration sensing system. The system further includes one or more sources of the metadata coupled to the one or more optical modulators.
