Abstract: A method of enhancing a communication capability of a communication unit (112), operating in a communication system (100) that facilitates communication to and/or from a plurality of communication units, is described. The method includes the step of operably coupling a first communication unit (112) to one or more neighbouring communication units (114, 116) such that said communication unit is able to utilise at least one operational capability of one or more of its neighbouring communication units to enhance communication to and/or from said first communication unit. This provides the advantage that a collective use of neighbouring communication units, for example formed in an aggregate group, provide a more reliable uplink and/or downlink communication link without using more network resources. In particular, the transmitting/receiving communication unit is able to utilise functionality in neighbouring communication units to which it can be operably connected. Furthermore, the wireless or wired communication link efficiency is improved and higher data rate throughput can be realized.

Abstract: A wireless data system (200) and a method (400) of communicating digital data to one or more handheld wireless devices (202) are provided. The method (400) comprise the steps of removing (402) at least one data segment from the digital data to form a first digital data portion (300) and replacing (406) the at least one data segment with an at least one position holder (303, 305) embedded into the first digital data portion. The method further includes forming (409) at least one second digital data portion including the at least one data segment, communicating (413) the first digital data portion (300) to a wireless network (209), and communicating (419) the at least one second digital data portion to a broadcast transmitter (215). The method broadcasts (422) the first digital data portion (300) from the wireless network (209) and broadcasts (425) the at least one second digital data portion from the broadcast transmitter (215). The method combines (427) in the handheld wireless device (202) the at least one data segment of the at least one second digital data portion into the at least one position holder of the first digital data portion (300) to reconstitute the digital data.

Abstract: A method in a wireless communication device for tracking the location of the device using cookie files ( 104 ). The location of the device ( 102 ) is determined by the device ( 100 ) itself or the infrastructure ( 114 ) in communication with the device. The location cookie files are created by or transmitted to the device by the communication system and can be interrogated or queried immediately by the device, the infrastructure, or stored for later use by both. When a location cookie, or a cookie associated with a location has been stored on the device, it can be queried to determine when the device has moved to or close to the same location as stored in the location cookie. The location in the cookie can also be used to guide the device to a certain location of the location cookie. The location cookie can also be used to track the number of time the device enters a certain location.
