Abstract:
The present method and apparatus comprises a communication element comprising a MAC layer that is configured for wireless communication within a sector, wherein said communication element comprises a transmitter, a receiver operably connected to the transmitter, a processor operably connected to the transmitter and the receiver, and memory operably connected to the processor, wherein the communication element is adapted to police data flow, whereby a peak data outflow constraint is applied for each flow across all assigned carriers, select a carrier from a plurality of the assigned carriers for the data flow, and control flow access, whereby a potential allowed transmission power for the data flow on the carrier is determined.
Abstract:
An access terminal (206) is configured for wireless communication with an access network (204) within a sector (1032). The access terminal (206) includes a transmitter (2608) for transmitting a reverse traffic channel to the access network (204), an antenna (2614) for receiving signals from the access network (204), a processor (2602) and memory (2604) in electronic communication with the processor (2602). Instructions are stored in the memo ry (2604). The instructions are arranged to estimate a current value of a rever se activity bit (1444) transmitted by the access network (204). Per flow power allocation may be decreased on increased based on an estimated current value of the reverse activity bit.
Abstract:
An access network that is configured for wireless communication with an access terminal that comprises a flow. The access network comprises means for determining whether the flow is meeting at least one quality of service requirement, means for sending a grant message to the access terminal if the flow is not meeting the at least one quality of service requirement, and means for allowing the flow to autonomously set its own power allocation if the flow is meeting the at least one quality of service requirement. The grant message comprises a current power allocation grant or an accumulated power allocation grant for the flow.
Abstract:
Some implementations of the present invention provide mechanisms for gating the transmission of FIN and other short overhead messages of the like in order to improve spectral efficiency. In some implementations spectral efficiency is improved by reducing the number of air-link connections established to merely transmit FIN and other short overhead messages of the like. In one implementation FIN messages are buffered in a queue and transmitted when an air-link connection is established to transmit higher value messages. In one implementation FIN messages are buffered and transmitted when the contents of the buffer breach a threshold that justifies the establishment of an air-link connection to transmit the contents of the buffer.
Abstract:
Allocating transmit power among two or more carriers assigned to a wireless communication device is disclosed. In one aspect, a method of allocating transmit power includes determining a total amount of data transmit power available at the wireless communication device for data transmission over the carriers. An efficiency metric is determined for each carrier based on the carrier's transmission characteristics and a portion of the total data transmit power is allocated to each carrier based on each carrier's efficiency metric.
