PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact projector which can give a bright projection image. SOLUTION: The projector has: a light source part 101 supplying light; a spatial optical modulator 103 modulating the light from the light source part 101 according to an image signal; and a projection lens 104 projecting the modulated light. The spatial optical modulator 103 is provided at a position where the center axis AX1 of the modulation area of the spatial optical modulator 103 is nearly aligned with the optical axis AX2 of the projection lens 104, and the light source part 101 is provided near a light source reference position STD when the position of the light source part at which a principal ray PR out of the light from the light source part 101 is made incident on almost the center C of the modulation area and the principal ray PR out of the light reflected by the spatial optical modulator 103 is made incident on almost the center of the projection lens 104 is defined as the light source reference position STD. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus or the like in which a high quality image can be obtained by adjusting a scanning position of a light beam with high accuracy. SOLUTION: The apparatus is equipped with: light sources 121R, 121G, 121B; a scanning section 200; light source driving sections 732R, 732G, 732B; an optical detector 510 having a first sensor and a second sensor; a scanning timing signal forming section 760 for forming a scanning timing signal indicating a timing with which a light beam scans an intermediate position of the first sensor and the second sensor; and a displacement detector 750 for detecting a displacement of the scanning timing signal from an initially set synchronizing signal. SOLUTION: The image display device can include a first color-ray light-source 10 for supplying a G-ray, a second color-ray light-source 20 for supplying a R-ray or B-ray, and the tilt-mirror device 30 having a plurality of movable mirror elements 31 being alternatively switchable the position thereof between a first reflection position and a second reflection position. SOLUTION: This device has a light source unit 101 for supplying a beam-like light L, a casing 107 for housing at least the light source unit 101, and a screen 110 provided in the casing 107 and allowing a light from the light source unit 101 modulated in response to an image signal to pass through. The casing 107 has a conductive unit electrically connected to the light source unit 101 and an external power source.
