Abstract: PURPOSE: To surely prevent the erroneous insertion by interrupting the forced insertion to the uncompatible drive device in the manner of providing a control device on a side wall for restricting the deflective deformation occuring toward the inside. CONSTITUTION: When a tape cassette TK2 for wide use is inserted to a cassette inserting room 26 of the uncompatible drive device D1 for 1/4" use, a tape protecting cover is rotated at first up to the opening position against the spring force of a coil spring. Next, left/right guide walls 32 are inserted to left/right guide recessed parts 20 of the cassette TK2 , then the insertion of cassette TK2 is guided by the left/right guide walls 32. When the insertion is progressed, an insertion interrupting part 21 of the cassette TK2 for wide use is bumped against the left guide wall 32, the insertion is thereby restricted. When the forced insertion is further attempted by an operator with the strong force for the reason that the erroneous insertion does not attract his attention, or the like, the reaction from the guide wall 32 is applied to the side wall 3d through a projecting part 21 interrupting the insertion. The side wall 3d is not deformed with deflection in the direction of inner wall, since a projecting part 22 for retainer at the lower side is being inserted into a hole 23 of a base plate 2, then the tape cassette is not forcedly inserted.

The drive device 30 is provided with a cartridge loading part 36, a cover member driving means 37A for turning the cover member 15 of the loaded data cartridge 1 and the sensors 38, 39 for identifying the specification identifying means 15B formed on the cover member 15, and the specification of the recording medium 7 is thereby identified at the time when the data cartridge 1 is loaded.

When the cartridge C2 is inserted from the cartridge port 23 of the recording/reproducing device D1 using the small width magnetic tape, is led into a fixed block 25d and a groove shape part 13. Then, the front end edge 2a of the base plate 2 of the cartridge C2 is inserted until the inner end part of the base plate insertion groove 25a of the device D1. In such a state, the non-operation part 41 is placed on a part dealing with the file-protect-senser 35 of the device D1, and no senser 35 is operated, and no filable state is detected. Thus, no device D1 is operated.

Rear ends 14b of one pair of right and left notches 14 of the base plate 2 of the C2 are projecting in the direction of an arrow (a) by several mm, and the width of the notches 14 in the forward and backward direction is smaller than the width of one pair of notches 14 of the C1 in the forward and backward direction by several mm. Then, when the C2 is misinserted into a recording and reproducing device in the direction of (a), one pair of right and left projecting parts 91 formed on the plate 2 are caught by an inserting hole part, and hence its misinsertion is infeasible.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To eliminate the need of a conventional slide core by a method wherein a case main body having a recessed label area on the rear face is molded in such a state that the case main body is inclined at a specified angle in a mold, and a rim of the label area is molded into a slope corresponding to the specified angle. CONSTITUTION:A hard case 1 which is to contain a tape cassette consists of a case main body 2 having a recessed label area 8 on the rear face and a lid 3 which is connected to the spine and opens and closes the case main body 2. The case main body 2 is molded in such a state that the case main body 2 is inclined at a specified angle, about 30 deg., for example, in a mold 10, so that a step face 8a of the label area 8 is molded into a slope corresponding to the specified angle. On the other hand, a rim opposite to the label area 8 is molded into a slope of 45 deg. as usual. Thereby, the hard case 1 having the label area 8 is molded into an exterior having a specified shape without using a slide core that is used to mold a conventional one.

Consequently, an abutting onto the torsion spring 32 when the supporting shaft 2b is inserted to the insertion port 31a is prevented, since a center of winding part of the torsion spring 32 can be made to coincide with a setting center of the supporting shaft 2b in the insertion port 31a when the torsion spring 32 is loaded to the lid body 31.
