Abstract: A latch assembly is mounted in an aperture formed in a first member for releasably retaining the first member against a corresponding second member and in a latched position. The latch assembly includes a handle which is adapted for pivotal rotation. A shaft is included which is connected with the handle. The handle is adapted to facilitate axial movement of the shaft as the handle is pivotally rotated between open and closed positions. A latch is provided on the shaft which is adapted for axial movement corresponding with movement of the shaft. The latch is adapted to releasably retain the second member in engagement with the first member when the handle is in its closed position. A retaining member is also included in connection with the shaft which is adapted for securing the latch in its mounted position on the shaft. The handle also includes at least one member engaging the shaft which in operation is adapted to provide sufficient drag thereon in order to prevent pivotal rotation of the shaft relative to the handle upon mounting in the aperture in the first member.

Abstract: A latch assembly is mounted in an aperture formed in a first member. The latch assembly includes a housing which is received within the aperture of the first member and includes an aperture extending therethrough. A slide is included which is received through the aperture of the housing. A pawl is also provided on the slide. A handle is pivotally attached to the slide for facilitating movement of the slide and pawl axially as the handle is pivoted between closed and opened positions. The pawl engages a second member in a latched position when the handle is pivoted to its closed position. The handle is also adapted for movement in a direction generally along a longitudinal axis thereof upon the closing and the opening of the handle which enables a first end of the handle to be positioned proximate to the housing when the handle is in its closed position. In the opened position, the handle is rotatable for facilitating rotatable movement of the pawl via the slide away from the second member and into an unlatched position. A sealing and biasing member is also included which provides both sealing of the aperture in the housing and for biasing the slide axially downward.

Abstract: A latch assembly is disclosed which is mounted in an aperture formed in a first member 100 and adapted for developing a compressive force between the first member and a corresponding second member 102. A slide 14 projects through an aperture of a housing 12 for movement axially and rotatably therein and a pawl 16 on the slide engages the second member 102. A handle 18 pivoted to the slide 14 is adapted for movement in a direction generally along a longitudinal axis thereof upon the closing and the opening of the handle. In the opened position (fig 2c) the handle is rotatable for moving the pawl via the slide away from the second member into an unlatched position and when the handle is moved to the closed position (fig 2a) the pawl is drawn against the second member 102. Means 20 acts both to bias the pawl 16 and to seal the aperture in the housing 12 through which the slide 14 extends. A sealing and biasing member 20 is also included which provides both sealing of the aperture in the housing biasing of the slide axially downward so as to urge the handle into contact with the housing upon its pivotal movement. A cam member including an integral spring member can also be included for preventing extraneous rattle of the handle and also to assist in motion control during movement thereof.
