Disclosed is a method for transmitting an Electronic Service Guide (ESG) in a Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) system, the method includes collecting ESG data to be transmitted; when a multi-stream mode is used in order to transmit the ESG data, setting parameters to be transmitted, and setting the number of IP streams to be used in the multi-stream mode; setting a signaling field indicating use or non-use of at least one partitioning rule in each IP stream; setting at least one of a start field value and an end field value for all fields of said each IP stream used according to a corresponding partitioning rule; if setup of the start field value and the end field value is completed, encoding a partition declaration field of an ESG init container including the set values; and transmitting the encoded ESG data to a terminal.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for providing a preview service using an ESG in a digital broadcasting system are provided. Metadata of ongoing broadcasting services are collected. In the presence of preview data for the preview service among the collected metadata, information associated with the preview service is set in a Related Material element included in at least one of a service fragment, a content fragment, and a service bundle fragment in an ESG data model and representing referenced media data. ESG data including the fragments are generated and sent to a terminal.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are provided for transmitting packet data over an uplink channel in a mobile communication system in which retransmission of a packet is possible using a hybrid automatic retransmission request (HARQ) technique. A base station receives a packet data unit (PDU) from a terminal and determines whether the base station can calculate a retransmission number (RSN) indicating the number of retransmissions for the PDU. If the base station cannot calculate the RSN for the PDU, the base station sets the RSN to a special value indicating that the number of retransmissions for the PDU is unknown, and transmits the set RSN to a serving radio network controller (SRNC) along with the PDU.

A method and apparatus for enabling partial combining on a Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service (MBMS) service are provided where a radio network controller (RNC) specifically informs a user equipment (UE) whether an MBMS service signal of the current cell is combinable with the same MBMS service signals received from different cells for each individual service or timing, through an MCCH or an MSCH, which is a type of a logical channel for an MBMS service, in a Uu interface. The UE combines the MBMS service signals transmitted from the different cells, thereby obtaining a gain in terms of utilization of transmission power and radio resources.
Abstract:
A method is disclosed for transferring preferred frequency information in a mobile communication system which establishes a preferred frequency layer and a non-preferred frequency layer for a Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service (MBMS) service. The method involves the steps of determining at least one preferred frequency of the MBMS service when a session of the MBMS service starts, generating the preferred frequency information representing said at least one preferred frequency, and transmitting the preferred frequency information to at least one serving radio network controller for managing communication of user equipments intended to receive the MBMS service.

A method and apparatus are provided for scheduling uplink data transmission in a mobile communication system. The method and apparatus include a base station scheduler for efficiently allocating radio communication resources in a mobile communication system using an E-DCH or DCH. The method and apparatus further include a User Equipment (UE) for using both an E-DCH and a conventional DCH to efficiently select the data rate of the E-DCH and the data rate of the conventional DCH. The method and apparatus can maintain the total transmit power of the UE at the time of retransmission the same as the total transmit power of the UE at the time of initial transmission regardless of the existence or absence of the DCH, thereby minimizing the change in the quantity of interference generated in the uplink by the UE.

A method of supporting MBMS service to employ shared Iu signaling connection comprises: UE has non-MBMS service necessary for being transmitted while receiving MBMS service; The UE sends a non-access stratum message "Service Request" to SGSN; RNC checks whether the UE receives MBMS service or not, and the RNC forwards the non-access stratum message of the UE through the shared Iu connection to the SGSN; After receiving the "Service Request" message, in the case where the service request is accepted, the SGSN returns a "Service Acceptance" message to MS; The SGSN sends an "RAB Assignment Request" message for identifying the UE in UTRAN and CN to the RNC; The RNC allocates resources and sends an "RAB Assignment Response" message to existing message "RAB Assignment Response"; The SGSN receives the message from the RNC and knows the corresponding user plane bearer establishment for UE has been completed.

Disclosed is a method for identifying UE states by CN. A new state PMM-JOINT is added to MM Context in CN and UE, for describing such a state of UE that RRC connection and shared Iu connection for a certain MBMS service is established for UE. And, there is no dedicated Iu connection, and SRNC knows the location of UE as well as UE can receive data. SGSN can get known all kinds of states of UE from MM Context. SGSN MM Context describes four states of UE, so as to enable SGSN to trace all states of UE and accomplish its mobility management function. The present invention makes SGSN and UE able to identify all kinds of states of UE receiving MBMS service. It makes MS describe and identify its own states correctly.

A volume-based charging method for single UE in MBMS services of WCDMA mobile communication system is proposed, which includes following steps: when UE starts to receive MBMS service data, UE itself collecting accounting the data volume it has successfully received and sending the report message to the RNC it belongs to periodically. RNC saving the data volume successfully received by each UE and updating the data volumes constantly with the periodical data volume reports of UE; when SGSN closes or queries the CDR of an UE, it voluntarily sending a request to the RNC; after RNC receives the request, it feedbacks the data volume saved to SGSN via a response message. SGSN creates a complete billing data record for Billing System. This invention solves the statistic problem for a single UE in common data service and effectively alleviates the problem of uplink signaling congestion.

This invention provides a paging method for Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service in mobile communication system. The paging process and radio resource setup process are merged in this method to try to reduce uplink responses. This invention extends existing PCH IubFP frame structure by adding MBMS Indication bit(MI) to PCH IubFP frame. The PCH IubFP frame includes Paging Indication (PI) and Paging Message. Paging message carries MBMS service information. MBMS Service Identity or MBMS Paging Indicator is added to the reserved 12 bits in Paging Indicator Channel (PICH) frame structure. Radio Network Controller (RNC) transfers Paging Indicator Message and paging message to Base Station (Node B) so as to send over the air-interface.
