Abstract:
A hybrid tuner, comprising multiple individual tuners having differing capabilities of receiving programs or channels of broadcast audio or video content, can be controlled by periodically determining the capabilities of each individual tuner to receive broadcast channels, storing such information into a guide database and then utilizing such information to select appropriate individual tuners to tune in desired programs. If the tuners that can receive a desired program are already in use, the program they are currently receiving can be switched to a different tuner to free up the tuner that can receive the desired program without interrupting the consumption of the program currently being received. When determining the capabilities of an individual tuner to receive a particular channel, one or more tokens associated with such a channel, and utilized to prevent unauthorized access to such a channel, can be obtained from the guide database and provided to the tuner.
Abstract:
Techniques are disclosed herein for processing iTV. A request to play a first interactive television signal at a first electronic device is received. A first virtual machine for processing the first interactive television signal is instantiated at the first electronic device. A first file that includes information associated with playing interactive TV on the first electronic device is accessed from non-volatile storage on the first electronic device. A request to play a second interactive television signal at a second electronic device that is communicatively coupled to the first electronic device is received. A second virtual machine for processing the second interactive television signal is instantiated at the first device. A second file that includes information associated with playing interactive TV on the second electronic device is stored in non-volatile storage on the first electronic device.

Abstract:
A system for automatically stopping and starting an engine of a vehicle which enables proper determination of whether the stopping of the engine is possible, in accordance with the state of a battery. A power brought out from the battery by auxiliaries is subtracted from a power generated by a generator, thereby calculating a difference corresponding to a power for actually charging the battery. By sequentially adding the value, an integrated value of power charged in the battery is calculated. Meanwhile, a value of a known power WBRK consumed by a brake lamp plus a current power consumed by the auxiliaries is multiplied by a beforehand determined target value of idling-stoppage duration, thereby evaluating an evaluated integrated value of power consumed by the battery during stoppage of an idling. If the integrated value is not less than the evaluated integrated value, the stopping of the engine E is permitted.
Abstract:
A plating analysis method is disclosed for electroplating in a system in which resistance of an anode and/or a cathode cannot be neglected. This method comprises giving a three-dimensional Laplace's equation, as a dominant equation, to a region containing a plating solution; discretizing the Laplace's equation by the boundary element method; giving a two-dimensional or three-dimensional Poisson's equation dealing with a flat surface or a curved surface, as a dominant equation, to a region within the anode and/or the cathode; discretizing the Poisson's equation by the boundary element method or the finite element method; and formulating a simultaneous equation of the discretized equations to calculate a current density distribution i and a potential distribution &phgr; in the system. The method can obtain the current density and potential distributions efficiently for a plating problem requiring consideration for the resistance of an electrode. The method also optimizes the structure of a plating bath for uniformizing current, which tends to be concentrated in the outer peripheral portion of the cathode, thereby making the plating rate uniform.
Abstract:
An insulating member (4) of an amorphous structure partially opened to expose a substrate (1; 1, 2, 3) is formed on the substrate. At least a compound semiconductor (5, 51, 52) containing at least nitrogen as a constituent element is deposited on the insulating member (4) and the substrate (40) exposed by the opening thereby to form a semiconductor material (1, 5, 51, 52). A semiconductor material (6, 7) configured of the first semiconductor material or configured of the first semiconductor material and another semiconductor material grown on the first semiconductor material is processed thereby to form a semiconductor device.
Abstract:
A control system for a hybrid vehicle prevents a voltage across an electric energy storage device from dropping excessively when the electric energy storage device is discharged with a generator/motor operating as an electric motor, for thereby effectively utilizing electric energy stored in the electric energy storage device as much as possible to operate the generator/motor as the electric motor. The control system also prevents the voltage across the electric energy storage device from rising excessively when the electric energy storage device is charged with the generator/motor operating as an electric generator, for thereby charging the electric energy storage device with electric energy generated by the generator/motor as much as possible while protecting the electric energy storage device. The control system controls operation of the generator/motor to keep a charging and discharging current of the electric energy storage device at a level equal to or smaller than a limiting value determined depending on the amount of electric energy stored in electric energy storage device and the temperature thereof when the generator/motor operates as the electric generator or motor.
Abstract:
A fuel injection method wherein optimum fuel injection timing in a fuel-injection type gas fuel engine is determined by setting fuel injection end timing to be after the start of opening of an intake valve. That is, when injection ends in a first half of the intake valve open period the volumetric efficiency .eta.v falls and the engine output also falls, because the injection period overlaps with a period of positive pressure arising inside the intake pipe before opening of the intake valve, but when injection ends in a second half of the intake valve open period the volumetric efficiency .eta.v rises and the engine efficiency also rises, because the injection period overlaps with a period of negative pressure arising in the intake pipe during the first half of the intake value open period. Consequently, when fuel is injected during this trough in the intake port pressure, the volumetric efficiency increases and the engine output also increases by several percent.
