    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of measuring color of a material having an irregular surface which exhibits different color intensity depending on the viewing angle.
    SOLUTION: A sampling area of the irregular surface material is illuminated approximately perpendicularly thereto, and the color reflected from the area is measured at a predetermined angle, preferably 45°. The measurement is conducted with a plurality of individual photodetectors 14 arranged spaced apart circularly around the illuminated sampling area of the material 30 having an irregular surface to receive reflected illumination from substantially opposite directions and at a predetermined angle to the illuminated area. A more accurate and low-cost color measuring system is thereby provided for textiles.
