A method of cleaning an embossing roll used in an embossing process. The method includes steps of passing a paper web between a pair of embossing rolls and preventing or cleaning deposits from the surface of at least one embossing roll. Pressurized air is forced through an air nozzle having an elongated narrow outlet that directs the pressurized air as an air knife against the patterned surface of the embossing roll after the patterned surface rotates out of contact with the web. The air knife extends an embossing width of the embossing roll. A lubricant or solvent may be mixed with the pressurized air.

An embossing and laminating machine is provided comprising a first embossing cylinder with a surface provided with a first set of protuberances and a second embossing cylinder with a surface provided with a second set of protuberances. The two embossing cylinders forming a nip. First and second pressure rollers interact with the first and the second embossing cylinders respectively. The protuberances are constructed in such a way that in the nip some of the protuberances of the first set coincide with some protuberances of the second set while other protuberances of the first set are out of phase with corresponding protuberances of the second set.

A process and an equipment for micro-pattern forming on the surface of a rolling roll, and a metallic thin sheet and preparation thereof by transferring a micro-pattern on the surface by use of the roll are provided. Such a rolling roll can be attained by a method wherein resin film mixed with optical absorbing agent is formed on the surface, a Q switch YAG laser having an output of 5 to 100W is applied to make a marking on this resin film, a part of the coated film is removed in strict accordance with the pattern, then an etching process is applied to the roll surface. The metallic thin sheet skin pass rolled by this roll is used as a car panel and is superior in pressworkability and sharpness of reflections.

An embossing roll (50) for producing fibrous products (10, 20, 30) especially tissue paper products, non-woven products or a hybrid thereof, and preferably hygiene and cleaning products, with an embossing surface (51) is suitable to run against an anvil roll (46), the embossing surface (51) comprises protrusions (53) starting from a base circumferential surface (55) of the embossing roll (50); the embossing protrusions (53) form a pattern with a base surface area of at least 3cm x 3cm; within each pattern there is a high number of embossing protrusions (53) which are sized and/or positioned such as to represent a rastered motive element covering the base surface area; at least some of the embossing protrusions {53} are dimensioned and/or positioned such that consecutive minimum distances between opposed side surfaces of pairs of embossing protrusions arranged in sequence vary gradually. Further the invention relates to a device employing an inventive embossing roll (50) and a method for arranging embossing protrusions on a circumferential surface of an inventive embossing roll.

A method of making an impression die comprises the steps of providing a substantially planar bendable bimetal plate (10) consisting of copper and steel bonded together, forming a relief pattern (14) in the surface of the copper for example by an etching process, forming the plate into a non-planar sleeve with the copper on the outside and joining the free edges of the sleeve together. Preferably the free edges of the sleeve (10) are joined together while the sleeve is mounted on a metal mandrel (15).

Die Erfindung betrifft Verfahren und Vorrichtungen zur Herstellung von Braille-Prägeprofilen sowie zur Herstellung von Brailleschrift-Prägungen. Ferner betrifft die Erfindung auch Braille-Prägeprofile als solche. Insbesondere ist vorgesehen, in Verbindung mit einem Flachbettstanzen einerseits und einem Offsetdrucken andererseits einfache Lösungsmöglichkeiten für das Erstellen von Brailleschrift-Prägungen zur Verfügung zu stellen. Dazu kann für das Flachbettstanzen die Braille-Patrize mit der Braille-Matrize für eine Übertragung und exakte Positionierung im Stanzwerkzeug magnetisch miteinander verbindbar ausgebildet sein. Für das Offsetdrucken ist eine vorteilhafte exakte Positionierung der Braille-Patrize mittels einer Druckbogen-Schablone vorgeschlagen, die sich anschließend in einen Matrizenrohling eindrücken kann. Die Braille-Patrize wird jeweils bevorzugt aus einem sämtliche Braille-Prägepunkte aufweisenden Patrizenrohling gefertigt.

An embossing and laminating machine is described comprising a first embossing cylinder (3) with a surface provided with a first set of protuberances (P3), a second embossing cylinder (5) with a surface provided with a second set of protuberances (P5), the said two embossing cylinders forming a nip, and a first and a second pressure rollers (7, 9) interacting with the first and the second embossing cylinders (3, 5) respectively; and in which the protuberances of the said first and the said second sets (P3, P5) are made in such a way that in the said nip some of the protuberances of the first set (P3) coincide with some protuberances of the second set (P5), while other protuberances of the first set are out of phase with corresponding protuberances of the second set. The transmission between the two cylinders is a transmission which permits slippage and phase difference between the cylinders to produce uniform wear of the protuberances.

In the method for producing a set of cooperating embossing rollers, a modelling device is used for parameterizing the embossing rollers, the device comprising a test bench having a pair of rollers which are put under hydraulic pressure that can be measured and set, in order to determine from the measurement data the parameters for producing the embossing rollers. The use of a modelling device for obtaining the parameters for producing a set of embossing rollers makes it possible to use a very large variety of embossing patterns and foils with diverse properties as a basis and, by conducting tests on this very test bench, be able to efficiently narrow down and predetermine the properties of a final embossing device, preferably operated without hydraulics.

Beim Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Satzes von miteinander kooperierenden Prägewalzen wird für die Parametrisierung der Prägewalzen eine Modellvorrichtung, ein Teststand, verwendet, die ein Paar Walzen aufweist, die unter mess- und einstellbaren hydraulischen Druck gesetzt werden, um aus den Messdaten die Parameter zur Herstellung der Prägewalzen zu bestimmen. Durch die Verwendung einer Modellvorrichtung zum Gewinnen der Parameter zur Herstellung eines Satzes von Prägewalzen, ist es möglich, rationell von einer sehr grossen Vielfalt von Prägemustern und Folien mit diversen Eigenschaften auszugehen, und durch Tests an eben diesem Teststand die Eigenschaften einer endgültigen, bevorzugt ohne Hydraulik betriebenen, Prägeeinrichtung eingrenzen und vorherbestimmen zu können.
