Abstract:
A refuse collection vehicle for loading, compacting, transporting and ejecting refuse materials is disclosed including a hollow refuse storage enclosure having a forward refuse receiving opening, and a rear refuse discharge opening closed by a tailgate. A generally full width charging hopper is located forward of the storage enclosure for receiving refuse from refuse containers, the charging hopper having sidewalls and a floor and being in communication with the storage enclosure. A variable stroke followerless packer-ejector panel mechanism is provided to move refuse materials to the sweep charging hopper, pack the refuse materials into the storage enclosure and fully eject the refuse materials from the storage enclosure. The truck body accommodates one or more container handling devices selected from narrow profile side-loading and front-loading container handling devices or a combination thereof for emptying containers into the charging hopper. A control system is provided for controlling the stroke operation of the packer-ejector panel in relation to the container handling device and eliminate the need for a follower regardless of collection container density.

A manual/automatic side loading and rear discharge refuse collection truck body as disclosed which incorporates full ejection without truck body tipping. A unique packing system as provided which includes a low profile packer panel which operates in a low profile charging material receiving hopper which also features lowered or dropped floor to facilitate optional manual loading. The charging hopper features a low profile which creates a dropped area beneath the forward portion of the storage enclosure so that material deposited in the charging hopper can be fed by the packing system into the storage enclosure through a bottom forward charging opening. A packer-ejector assist panel is provided to assist in clearing material from the dropped area portion of the charging hopper.

The invention provides a refuse and recyclable materials collection system which includes a self-dumping bin, a hauling unit with a tailgate and an opening top, side or both, a compacting ram that empties the hopper into the body, compacts and ejects the collected materials. The collection vehicle is placed into a loading position, which can be on either side of the vehicle. For collection of two different types of recyclable materials the collection vehicle can be equipped with two receiving doors, hoppers, rams, compacting chambers and tailgates. The self-dumping bin receives power by connecting hydraulic lines from the collection vehicle. The self-dumping bin is then raised to the dumping position by a lifting mechanism. The receiving door opens to form a chute for receiving the materials from the self-dumping bin. A baffle on each of the receiving doors forms a trap to prevent spillage. The bin has a tapered “lip” that funnels the material into the hopper of the hauling unit. The bin is moved into a tipping position allowing the materials to empty from the bin into the hopper of the collection vehicle. As the hopper is filled the ram manually or automatically cycles to empty the hopper and compact the material. The loaded vehicle is then transported to either a landfill for refuse or a material recycling facility for recycling. The collection vehicle can be a trailer, which is towed by a truck or a body mounted on a truck chassis.

A suction system for urban wastes and for recyclable materials comprising a motorized transport means (10) suitable to receive urban wastes and/or recyclable materials placed in a container (36) or left on the ground, wherein said transport means (10) is provided with a sucking tube (15, 17, 18, 23) which can be moved in order to suck and/or which can be inserted by means of actuators (20, 25) inside an opening (30) formed in an underground container (36), closing means (27) are provided for the opening (30), said means being provided with an opening (35) of predetermined size. Preferably, said closing means comprise a sliding turret (27) which can be moved when the sucking tube is activated.

This invention relates generally to refuse collecting and disposal vehicles. In one aspect, it relates to a refuse body adapted to be mounted on a conventional refuse vehicle chassis for loading, compacting and ejecting refuse without tilting of the body.

A multiple compartment storage body for a refuse collection vehicle includes a floor, a roof, a plurality of walls extending between the floor and the roof, a partition and a bulkhead latch. The partition has a first opposing end portion pivotally coupled intermediate the floor and the roof between the walls to allow a second opposing end portion to pivot between the floor and the roof. The bulkhead latch is pivotally supported adjacent the roof and extends from the roof proximate the second opposing end portion. A lower most section of the plurality of sections includes a support member for engaging and supporting the second opposing end portion of the partition between the floor and the roof. The vertical distance the bulkhead vertically extends below the roof is adjustable to adjust a distance at which the second opposing end portion of the partition is supported above the floor.

A front loading refuse collection vehicle has a refuse receiving body within which a compaction panel is movable between a refuse receiving position and refuse compacting positions spaced from the receiving position. A pair of hydraulically actuated power cylinder assemblies are connected to the body adjacent the refuse receiving end and to the compaction panel, the assemblies extending in criss-cross fashion one above the other. The ends of the assemblies connected to the panel are restrained by apparatus which is normally passive and does not interfere with the connection between each hydraulic cylinder assembly and the panel, but which upon failure of the connection between a hydraulic cylinder assembly and the panel restrains movement of the cylinder assembly having the failed connection so that the end of that assembly remains closely adjacent to the panel and between the side walls of the body. The restraining apparatus thus acts as a safety device to prevent the end of a cylinder assembly having a failed connection from exiting the body.

An apparatus for collecting and transporting recyclable waste material which includes a body for receiving material mountable to a vehicle. The body has separate upper and lower material-receiving compartments. Two longitudinally-spaced loaded openings are at the top of the body. One opening is in continuous communication with only the lower compartment, and the second opening, positioned rearward of the first opening, is in continuous communication with only the upper compartment. Separate doors close the rear of each compartment; the second door, when closed, overlies and is spaced from the first door. A bucket, associated with the front of the body, can be raised, lowered and tipped, and has separate bins for receiving material. The bins are aligned with the loaded openings when the bucket is in the tipped, discharge position so that each bin can dump material into a corresponding compartment. Extendable and rectractable compactors are also employed for compacting and moving material within each of the two compartments.
Abstract:
A vehicle having a bed which is pivotal from a trash collection position to a trash dumping position. The bed is provided with inner walls for dividing the interior of the bed into three compartments, a central compartment for receiving paper and two side compartments for receiving, respectively, metal materials and glass materials. The central compartment has a push blade which forces paper materials rearwardly toward a rear access door. The blade carries two skimmer plates in respective side compartments for skimming the top piles of waste materials in the two side compartments. The bed is provided with rear side openings covered by doors which, when opened, allow materials to move out of the side compartments when the bed it tilted.
