Abstract: A paint composition comprising a powder paint uniformly dispersed in an aqueous solution of a water soluble carboxylated resin. Use is made of a powder paint having a mean particle size of 1-100 microns and preferably comprising a thermosetting resin as the vehicle. This paint composition contains no surfactant but, nevertheless, features high stability of the dispersion phase and can provide paint films of excellent resistance to water. This paint composition may utilize recovered waste powder paint, i.e. a mixture of differently colored powder paints, preferably with the addition of a black pigment such as carbon black.

Abstract: A water-based coating composition which emits very little pollutants on curing to a water-resistant coating comprises a synthetic resin containing free carboxyl groups held in solution or stable dispersion in water by an amine. The amine is a tertiary carbinamine containing at least two hydroxymethyl groups bonded to the carbon atom carrying the amine group. The coating compositions react with formaldehyde to produce stable fluid emulsion coating compositions having similar properties on curing. The coating compositions are used to coat substrates.

Abstract: A novel complexer for use in aqueous coating compositions formed from acidic resins, as well as the coating compositions, are described. The complexer is formed from a metal having a coordination value in excess of its valence and a polyalkylene polyamine along with, optionally, organic acids and cometals. The acidic resin, partially neutralized with ammonia, is added to the formed complexer to form the coating composition, a coordinate, which, upon drying, provides films which are water resistant and have excellent wet rub resistance. The coating compositions are particularly useful for inks, including gravure and flexographic inks.
