An apparatus and a method for providing a Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) service using a digital TeleVision (TV) and an external device are provided. It is determined whether a received broadcast channel supports a Multi Mode Service (MMS), and if so, one of subchannels included in the broadcast channel is set to a main channel. The digital TV reproduces a broadcast signal via the main channel, and broadcast signals of subchannels excluding the main channel are transmitted to at least one external device in communication with the digital TV.

An apparatus for providing a supplementary function of digital multimedia broadcasting includes a control unit that receives a selected instruction message for a digital multimedia broadcasting signal input by a user, a demodulating unit that receives a digital multimedia broadcasting signal corresponding to the selected instruction message by using at least one tuner, a reception sensitivity confirming unit that confirms the reception sensitivity of the received digital multimedia broadcasting signal, and a determining unit that determines whether the received digital multimedia broadcasting signal is output in accordance with the confirmed reception sensitivity.

Es wird ein Verfahren zur Direktabtastung einer Mehrzahl von Radiobändern vorgeschlagen, das einen Schritt des Empfangens eines ersten Radiobands (331) über eine erste Schnittstelle und mindestens eines weiteren Radiobands (332, 333) über mindestens eine weitere Schnittstelle umfasst, wobei das erste Radioband (331) und das mindestens eine weitere Radioband (332, 333) jeweils unterschiedlichen Frequenzbereichen zugeordnet sind und es sich bei dem ersten Radioband oder dem mindestens einen weiteren Radioband um ein DAB-Band handelt. Ferner erfolgt ein Empfangen (104) eines Auswahlsignals über eine Schnittstelle, wobei das Auswahlsignal anzeigt, ob eine Weiterverarbeitung des ersten Radiobands (331) und/oder des mindestens einen weiteren Radiobands (332, 333) erfolgt. Abhängig von dem Auswahlsignal erfolgt ein Abtasten des ersten Radiobands (331) mit einer gemeinsamen Abtastfrequenz und/oder des mindestens einen weiteren Radiobands (332, 333) mit der gemeinsamen Abtastfrequenz.

Methods and apparatus for optimizing idle mode stand-by time in wireless device operable in a multicast system are disclosed. In order to maximize or optimize the stand-by time for idle mode, a time line for decoding of overhead information symbol (OIS) data received in one or more superframes in the wireless device. Based on the determined time line, an offset time period can be determined for setting an idle mode timer period used by the wireless device to decode the OIS information. By offsetting the timer period, a wireless device can be ensured to wake up and prepared to latch OIS information before the start of a superframe boundary, thus minimizing the wake up time of the device operating in an idle mode and, in turn, optimizing stand-by time.

Provided are transmission and reception apparatuses and methods used in a conditional access system that limitedly allows access to a terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB) service. The transmission apparatus selects a single service component from a transmission frame which includes a main service channel (MSC) including sub-channels including one or more service components and a fast information channel (FIC) which transmits control information regarding the main service channel to insert an entitlement management message (EMM) that is used to grant or update the entitlement on the DMB service to the selected single service component, and provides location information regarding the selected single service component to the fast information channel.

A hybrid satellite/terrestrial wireless network having a plurality of terrestrial cells and satellite coverage areas is disclosed. A multiplex transmitted in a terrestrial cell may include signaling information for neighboring terrestrial cells and neighboring satellite coverage areas. The signaling information may include indicators identifying different profiles for the hybrid satellite/terrestrial network, and include other information enabling handover from the terrestrial cell multiplex to one of the neighboring terrestrial or satellite multiplexes.

Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for performing a single DMB channel handover. The apparatus for performing a channel handover using a single DMB module comprises a channel handover selection unit for selecting whether to use a DMB channel handover function, a map matching unit for matching the administrative district on the map of a terminal and a broadcasting area, a route searching unit for searching the expected entry route of a user and the current location, and a channel handover unit for performing a new DMB channel handover corresponding to the expected entry route of the user, if the current location of the user is the boundary area of the administrative district on the map of the terminal.

The present invention relates to a system for transmitting and receiving audio, particularly, to a method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving of object-based audio contents, which packetizes audio objects having the same characteristic. To achieve the above, the present invention includes filtering a plurality of ESs according to common information, adding a packet header to the respective filtered ESs and generate ES packets, aggregating all the generated ES packets and then adding a multi-object packet header to the aggregated ES packets to generate an object packet, and multiplexing the generated object packet, packetizing the multiplexed object packet according to a transmitting media and transmitting the packetized object packet.

A method of providing a digital broadcast and apparatus for receiving a digital broadcast are disclosed, by which a CA (conditional access) digital broadcast can be temporarily provided to enable a digital broadcast user to easily decide whether to subscribe to a pay broadcasting service by allowing the broadcast user to temporarily access the pay broadcasting service without necessary qualification or condition. The present invention generates a digital broadcast transmission frame for digital broadcast content including time-limited broadcast reception admission information to enable the digital broadcast to be received for a limited time.
