Abstract:
Disclosed is a video processor for a magnifier camera. In particular, the disclosure relates to a video processor that eliminates the use of a frame buffer. This, in turn, reduces the latency otherwise present in the video signal. The disclosed video processor also allows selected portions of the display to be shaded. This highlights the non-shaded portions of the display while at the same time allowing the entire object to be perceived by the user.

Abstract:
A self-contained mobile optical scanning system having an image scanner contained within a hollow inside space defined by mated engagement of an upper housing and a lower housing having corresponding upper and lower transparent windows having reduced margins and a scanning control interface rotatable through the enclosed space which allows scanning through the upper transparent window in either the upright or inverted condition by alignment of viewable indicator marks and overlap indicators in relation to an article which allows stitched alignment of a plurality of scanning cycles to generate images embeddable with metadata or data files.
Abstract:
A image magnifier for the vision impaired which magnifies the image of face up source material (13) placed in the visual field of the camera (15) and displays the magnified image on a display (20). One embodiment includes a static high-resolution image mode and a second live video mode. The controller (29) provides different lighting appropriate for each mode. In a further embodiment the magnifier is transportable. Each part (17, 14, 16) is hinged (18, 19) to the other parts (17, 14, 16) allowing it to be folded into a compact lightweight form to be portably carried. In a still further embodiment the magnifier includes shielding for the lighting to minimise or avoid specular reflections.
Abstract:
The invention discloses a portable and hand-held scanning device comprising an on/off button mounted to the top of the housing. The user must maintain the on/off button in a pressed position, or an "on" position, for the device to function for the duration of a scanning operation. The device further comprises an LCD display enabling the user to view individual scan lines. The user can scroll through the scan lines by means of a thumb-wheel.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a device for viewing documents in a flat bed scanner which consists of a stationary document support (1) and a movable scanning unit (4) with a light source (5) for illuminating the document (2) to be scanned, an optoelectronic transducer (7) and a scanning lens (6) for imaging the scanning line of the document (2) onto the optoelectronic transducer (7). A light source (11) is provided below the document support (1), and a diffusing foil (12) is fastened to the scanning unit (4). When the scanning unit (4) is brought into a parking position, it pulls the diffusing foil (12) below the document support (1). When the scanning unit (4) is moved across the document support (1), it draws back the diffusing foil. When the scanning unit (4) is in a parking position, the diffusing foil (12) is tightened by means of an appropriate tightening device.
Abstract:
A device for recording information by means of imaging with the aid of a light-sensitive sensor with a two-dimensional sensor surface is described. The device is adjustable between a first mode and a second mode. In the first mode, the imaging is effected by means of a plurality of images with partially overlapping contents. Each of the images depicts a small area on an information carrier and the images are put together into a composite image. In the second mode, the imaging is effected by means of at least one image of a larger area of the information carrier. The device has means for indicating the size of the imaging area.
Abstract:
A wall or vertical stand mounted scanner for large and small format transmissive X-ray films and any type of transmissive media, that incorporates a viewing light box into the case to view the media before and after scanning. The scanner has an external light source (3) that shines through the media onto a lens/CCD camera (5, 6). The media is transported (2) under the light source for scanning and then it is brought back to the viewer for immediate comparison to the scanned image which is displayed on the computer monitor. The entire scanner is mounted vertically. Scanning and viewing is done in the vertical plane to allow for minimal contact between the media and scanner. This vertical orientation discourages any dust or particulates to settle on optical surfaces as they are vertically located. Also a vertically orientated scanning bulb allows streak-causing debris that can form within the scanning bulb itself to fall to the bottom of the bulb. It is possible to pivot the light source below the media to be scanned in order to scan reflective media.
