Abstract:
The invention provides a method and apparatus for aligning the printing of dots generated by at least one array of printing elements of a printing apparatus. The method includes the steps of printing a calibration test pattern, scanning the printed calibration test pattern, determining at least one calibration value based on the scanned calibration test pattern, and adjusting the alignment of the array of printing elements based on the determined calibration value. The step of scanning the printed calibration test pattern further includes automatically positioning a camera relative to the printed calibration test pattern and imaging a detail of the printed calibration test pattern within the field of view of the camera.

A paper feed roller (5) is divided into a first roller (5a) and a second roller (5b), and a slit (58) allowing the passage of about 10 to about 20 sheets of paper is defined between the first roller and a gate plate (57) opposing the first roller, so that a sheet of paper fed out via this slit can be supplied between the second roller (5b) and a separation pad (7) in contact with the second roller. A biassing force of a spring for transferring paper is converted by a slide cam sliding in a direction parallel to the paper feed roller, and a paper width detection sensor is assembled in a snap-in structure.

An image reading apparatus which supports a both-side scan mode and a controlling method thereof. The image reading apparatus includes: an automatic paper transfer unit which automatically transfers a papers; a first scanning unit which comprises a first light source and scans a first side of the paper; a second scanning unit which comprises a second light source and scans a second side of the paper; and a controller which controls the first and second light sources to be alternately lit on a plurality of times within a cycle of a preset signal when the paper is transferred to the automatic paper transfer unit.

An image reading apparatus for reading a document has an image sensor unit, which is moved along a platen glass in a sub-scanning direction, mounting an LED, a light guide and a sensor. A white reference panel for use of shading correction is provided on the platen glass on the side thereof opposite the image sensor unit. Light shield plates are provided on the platen glass on the side facing the image sensor unit along both sides of the white reference panel.

An image reading apparatus provided with a white reference sheet (416b) which is moveable between the first reading position for the document at which the optical reading unit (21) reading the image information is supplied by the automatic paper feeding mechanism (9) and a second reading position for the document placed on a flat bed (700) and which regulates the absolute white level with respect to the light source (25a), wherein the above-described white reference sheet (416b) is provided at the above-described first reading position on the opposite side to the optical reading unit (21) while sandwiching the document feeding passage therebetween.
