Abstract:
The invention describes a composition for producing durable coatings and a process for preparing a single-layer broad band antireflective coating on solid substrates, such as glass, ceramics, metals, and organic polymeric materials. The coating composition comprises, in combination, acid catalyzed hydrolysis and condensation products of water-silane monomer mixture and a film forming amount of a polymer having functional groups selected from amino, hydroxy and carboxy, hydroxy and amino, amino and carboxy, and amino, hydroxy and carboxy. The described process comprises applying the aforesaid coating composition (or an acid catalyzed sol-gel coating composition) substantially free of preformed oxide sol and water soluble metal salt to the surface of a solid substrate, curing the applied coating, and treating the cured coating with an aqueous electrolyte solution for a time sufficient to produce a coating having graded porosity which is antireflective over a broad band of the visible spectrum.
Abstract:
A lens which can be worn, in the form of eyeglasses, for the reduction of visual noise and resulting eye strain for an observer of a visual display terminal. The lens comprises a light transmitting plastic body having convex shaped outer surface away from the eye of the observer. The body is provided with, in combination, an ultraviolet absorber for at least substantially blocking the transmission of ultraviolet radiation incident upon the lens, a color dye for diminishing the transmission of radiation having a wavelength of between 500-600nm, and a grey dye for reducing the transmission of visible light. A corresponding method is also provided, along with a method and a kit for producing such a lens.
Abstract:
Method for forming images by ultraviolet irradiation and products for the obtention of such images. According to the invention, there are deposited on an object a sublayer, and a transparent base including a fluorescent body in a proportion at the most equal to 5% by weight of the base. Application particularly to displays.
Abstract:
A dispersion for coating a reflective-transmissive surface comprising a mixture of an aqueous dispersion of polyvinyl acetate resin and an aqueous dispersion of an acrylic resin. When applied to such surfaces--for example, the protective glass or plastic of an electronic screen--the coating reduces reflected glare while maintaining the quality of the image transmitted from the screen being viewed. Methods of making and using the dispersion, as well as surfaces treated with the dispersion, are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A support made of a transparent material and enabling a perfect adherance of a lacquer is used. One face of the support is dulled, and a very thin layer of lacquer of uniform thickness and of any desired teint is applied; before the lacquer dries, a solvent unmiscible to the lacquer is applied, and a second layer of the same solvent and comprising a fine suspension of metal particles is applied to the first layer of solvent before evaporation, and optionally a compressed air stream is directed to the second layer of solvent, before its evaporation, so as to cause the migration of the metal powder transported by the solvent and thereby modify the decorative effect; the solvent is allowed to evaporate, the assembly being visible through the thickness of the transparent support. Application: wall panels, coating panels for furniture, or various furniture objects, for example sanitary apparatus.
Abstract:
Abstract:

Abstract:
An improved method for applying multiple layers of coating compositions on a previously painted substrate by first applying a primer coating and then applying over the primer coating a top coating that matches the color of the painted substrate at less than complete hiding to achieve a color match of the top coating and the previously painted substrate; the improvement used is to apply a gray or white primer coating at complete hiding having a reflectance in its dried state essentially the same as the top coating measured at the wavelength of minimum absorption of the top coating.
Abstract:
Patterned cookware coatings can be obtained with colors not readily available from reflective pigments by additive color mixing of interference colors using oxide coated mica.
