Abstract:
Surface textures embossed in a substrate such as plastic include surface depressions or cones having equally-spaced, reflective terraced steps to support coherent reflections of incident light. A desired color or bandwidth of coherent reflected light off the terraced steps is produced by adjusting the index of refraction of a material in communication with the terraced steps of the substrate. Preferably, the index of refraction of each zone of terraced steps is controlled based on an applied electric field. Accordingly, light reflected from a plurality of controlled zones can be used to produce an image for an observer.
Abstract:
A system for dispensing mixed beverages has a processor (6) to control the liquid dispensed at an outlet (2) in dependence upon the demand of a user as input to a keypad (8). Carbonated water is fed to the outlet (2) by way of tubing (12) and a syrup concentrate is also fed thereto by way of a tubing (20). The water and syrup is mixed in the correct quantities by way of respective proportional valves (14) which adjust the quantity or flow rate of the two constituents fed through a mixing chamber (16) in accordance with flow rate readings provided to the processor (6) by respective flow transducers (22). The flow transducers (22) measure the speed of flow ultrasonically and are able to provide flow rate readings at a rate of 50 per second. The proportional valves (14) are able to adjust the quantities fed to the mixing chamber (16) at a similar rate such that the mix can be reliably determined even if there are transitory pressure drops or viscosity changes in the system.
Abstract:
A homogenous, free-flowing, resin containing 80 to 90 weight percent of polypropylene and 10 to 20 weight percent of liquid organic peroxide, where the weight percents are based on the total weight of the polypropylene and the liquid organic peroxide, is provided. Furthermore, a process is provided for producing this polypropylene by mixing 80 to 90 weight percent of polypropylene, in the form of 100-500 micron particles, with 10 to 20 weight percent of liquid organic peroxide, where the weight percents are based on the total weight of the polypropylene and the liquid organic peroxide.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A joint device, for interconnecting a jack rafter 2 to a hip beam 1, comprising a first joint part 8 connectable to or engageable with a jack rafter 2, a second joint part 10 having a locating portion locatable on or connectable to a hip beam 1. Said second part 10 having an engageable portion, and securing means, such as a bolt or screw, for interconnecting said first and second joint parts, which, in use, draws, the locating portion of the first part 8 towards the engageable portion of the second part 10 to thus draw the two parts together in an abutting relationship,
Abstract:
A brace for use in tilt-up construction is disclosed. The brace includes a bottom surface and a vertical side surface. The bottom surface of the brace is affixed to a permanent horizontal surface (e.g., a slab) in a manner that allows the brace to be removed without damaging the permanent horizontal surface. The vertical side surface of the brace is attached to a concrete pour form. The bottom surface of the brace is affixed to the permanent horizontal surface using an adhesive. Alternatively, a shoe is attached to the permanent horizontal surface and the brace sits in the shoe. A flange is releasably securable with the brace to batter the form when the flange is place in contact therewith. Alternatively, the shoe has an upwardly extending inclined ramp that is operable to orient the brace so that the vertical side surface of the brace is disposed at a battering angle to batter the form.

In a system for dispensing mixed beverages a processor controls the liquid dispensed at an outlet in dependence upon the demand of a user as input to a keypad. Carbonated water is fed to the outlet and a syrup concentrate is also fed thereto. The water and syrup is mixed in the correct quantities by way of respective pilot chamber proportional valves which adjust the quantity or flow rate of the two constituents fed through a mixing chamber in accordance with flow rate readings provided to the processor by respective flow transducers. The flow transducers measure the speed of flow ultrasonically and are able to provide flow rate readings at a rate of 50 per second.
