Abstract: Filtration systems having a normal filtration mode and an enhanced filtration mode are described. In some arrangements, the filtration system is an air filtration system having a primary air filter element, a pre-cleaner, and a pre-cleaner bypass valve. Based on feedback from an intake air quality sensor the bypass valve is either opened or closed to selectively route intake air through the pre-cleaner during sensed dirty air operating conditions (e.g., heavy dust or moisture concentrations). In other arrangements, the filtration system is a liquid filtration system (e.g., a fuel or oil filtration system) that has a main filter and a secondary filter. The filtration system selectively routes the liquid being filtered through the main filter, the secondary filter, or a combination thereof depending on a detected event or sensed characteristic of the liquid.

Abstract: A no filter no run bidirectional pin element is disclosed. A shell housing is removably coupled to a filtration housing, a removable no filter no run attachment, and a filter element. The filter element comprises a filtration media and a bidirectional pin element. The bidirectional pin element comprises a center tube formed as a single piece with a bidirectional pin. The installation of the filter element and the shell housing into the filtration system results in the bidirectional pin entering a pin aperture of the removable no filter no run attachment and the bidirectional pin preventing the operative engagement of a blocking element with a divider inside the no filter no run attachment.

Abstract: Systems and methods for determining whether an authorized or genuine filter element is installed in a filtration system are described. The authorized filter determination may be based on radio frequency identification (“RFID”) technology. RFID readers with antennas in the monitored filter systems read the RFID tag information from the installed filter elements and feed any detected information into the filter monitoring system. The filter monitoring system or a remote diagnostic system analyzes the returned data (or absence thereof) to determine if a genuine (i.e., authorized, OEM approved, etc.) filter element is installed or not.

Abstract: A valve-sensor assembly for a filter assembly that filters water from a fluid. The valve-sensor assembly includes a sensor body and a drain valve body. The sensor body includes a filter element engagement portion having a hollow interior that extends longitudinally through a length of the sensor body and a protrusion that extends circumferentially along an exterior surface of the filter element engagement portion. The sensor body further includes one or more water-in-fluid sensors provided at the exterior surface of the filter element engagement portion. The drain valve body includes a main body having a drain port, and a valve extending from the main body and extending at least partially within the hollow interior. The valve has an interior passage in fluid communication with the drain port.

Abstract: A fuel filter system that does not require the periodic draining of a water sump. The system includes a fuel tank for storing fuel and a fuel filter fluidly coupled to the fuel tank for separating water from the fuel. A fuel pump has a suction side and a high pressure side. The high pressure side of the fuel pump is fluidly coupled to the fuel filter for pumping fuel to the fuel filter. A water emulsifier, such as an orifice, is fluidly coupled to the fuel filter to receive water and fuel from the fuel filter and form a water-fuel emulsion. The water-fuel emulsion is supplied to any point in the system on the suction side of the fuel pump, such that the water-fuel emulsion passes through the fuel pump and fuel filter.

Abstract: A filter assembly includes a drain port comprising a top portion and at least one surface modification along the top portion. The drain port defines an aperture therein and is alignable with an outlet port. The outlet port includes a seal member that is attachable to an end portion of the outlet port. A portion of the aperture of the drain port is sealable to the seal member when the drain port and the outlet port are aligned such that the at least one surface modification of the drain port does not abut the seal member of the outlet port, thereby creating a sealed connection between the drain port and the outlet port.
