A method and system is disclosed for updating/modifying/upgrading the system configuration of a stand alone non-network connectible device. The method is performed while a portable device is docked to the non-network connectible device. System configuration update information is embedded within the ordinary data content that is received from the portable device during the routine operation of the stand alone non-network connectible device. Upon receiving the embedded system configuration update information the non-network connectible device decrypts the embedded information and updates the system configuration accordingly. Generation of the embedded system configuration update information is performed in the portable docking device, and installation is performed on the non-network connectible device without requiring a network connection in the stand alone device.
Abstract:
There is provided an interface viewable on a display for a communications apparatus used during a session for voice communications between at least two parties. The interface includes at least one edge of the display having a row of objects, each object of the row being for representing each of the at least two parties; and a main portion of the display being for showing the object of the party speaking at a particular point in time, with a plurality of the objects being shown when a plurality of the parties are speaking at the particular point in time. Advantageously, the object of the speaking party is shown on the main portion when the speaking party's voice is detected by the speaking party's communications apparatus, a host server receiving information from the speaking party's communications apparatus to aid in displaying the object of the speaking party at the particular point in time. Alternatively, the object of the speaking party may also undergo a change of state, such as, for example, a blinking effect, a single occurrence resizing effect, a transitional blurring effect, a repeated resizing effect, and any combination of the aforementioned.

In a first aspect, there is provided a method for mounting a handheld device onto a host apparatus including a movable supporting structure for the handheld device. The method includes coupling a female connector of the handheld device with a male connector of the host apparatus, the male connector being positioned at an incline, with a head of the male connector facing towards a rear end of the host apparatus; resting a first edge of the handheld device against a surface of the host apparatus to minimize a force acting on the male connector caused by a mass of the handheld device when coupling the female connector to the male connector; and using either a finger or a thumb of a user to position the supporting structure to contact a back face of the handheld device, with the supporting structure subsequently being positioned to vary a resting angle for the handheld device. Preferably, the male connector acts as a pivot when the supporting structure varies the resting angle for the handheld device. In another aspect, the method may also be employed where the handheld device includes a male connector and the host apparatus includes a female connector. It should be noted that many facets of the method are identical regardless of the respective positions of the male and female connectors.

There is provided a method for incorporating a soundtrack into an edited video-with-audio recording using a video recording apparatus. The method includes recording the video-with-audio for subsequent playback. Subsequently, at least one soundtrack is incorporated as an audio tag, the at least one soundtrack being selected from a plurality of soundtracks generated from a soundtrack creator dependent on conditions such as, for example, parameters of content of the recorded video-with-audio, user-defined characteristics for the at least one soundtrack, or a combination of both of the aforementioned conditions. Content of the video-with-audio incorporated with the selected soundtrack is reviewed. The user may edit the content of video-with-audio incorporated with the selected soundtrack by removing image frames of the video-with-audio; and rectify the selected soundtrack using the soundtrack creator such that the edited video-with-audio has a fluent soundtrack similar to the selected soundtrack. The edited video-with-audio is thus enhanced in relation to aural effects in a desired manner by the user. In another aspect, there is provided an audio tag used to generate a soundtrack in a video-with-audio using a soundtrack creator.
Abstract:
There is provided several embodiments of the present invention, the invention being an automatic detection unit allowing for coupling of an external device with a host. The unit may connect to an external device either via wired or wireless means. The host may be activated from a standby mode by the external device and the external device may be identifiable by the host (or a verifier). Identification of the external device by the host allows identification of at least one data format type transmitted by the external device when data is transferred from the external device to the host. This may enable processing of the data by the host, such as, for example, storage, playback or both of the aforementioned.
Abstract:
There is provided a media player including a casing with a front panel mounted thereon; the front panel including at least one touch sensor; and at least one mechanical switch incorporated within the casing. It is preferable that a combination of activating at least one touch sensor, and activating the at least one mechanical switch at least once is required for the activation of at least one function from a first set of functions of the media player. The media player may be an audio media player, a video media player, a digital photo viewer or a combination of the aforementioned. Associated methods to provide instructions to the media player are also disclosed.

There is provided a portable digital device including: a display; a processor for rotating content shown on the display from a first orientation to a second orientation; a connector for connection of the portable digital device to a peripheral device; and at least two control devices for controlling at least two operational functions of the portable digital device. It is advantageous that the content shown on the display is automatically rotated from a first orientation to a second orientation by the processor when a functional connection to the peripheral device is made using the connector. The content may be rotated as a single entity or it may be rotated pixel-by-pixel. Depending on the peripheral device, the rotation may be either 90 0 or 180 0 . The functional connection may preferably be detected by the processor using a mechanical switch, an impedence meter and a combination of the aforementioned. There is also provided a method for automatically reconfiguring a setup of a portable digital device.

There is provided a method for accessing at least one audio file from a collection comprising more than one audio file stored within or accessible with an electronic device. The method includes generating one index comprising of information entries obtained from each of the more than one audio file in the collection, with each audio file in the collection information being linked to at least one information entry; receiving an input during an input reception mode; converting the input into a digital signal using an analog-digital converter; analysing the digital signal using either frequency spectrum analysis or melody contour analysis into discrete portions; and comparing the discrete portions with the entries in the index. It is advantageous that the audio file is accessed when the discrete portions substantially coincide with at least one of the information entries in the index. The discrete portions may be musical notes, melody contours or waveforms. The at least one information entry may also be musical notes, melody contours or waveforms. An apparatus employing the aforementioned method is also disclosed.

A method and system for text editing, playing back a score are disclosed, which have a word processing/playing back function for a score. Using the method and system according to the invention, experts and non-experts can learn and use easily; efficiency can also be improved. A user can input notes, signs and lyrics conveniently in a way similar to that in text-editing software. Moreover, these notes and signs are provided with visualized shortcut operations and have intelligent prompts. A user can learn easily and operate efficiently. Layouts of a score file can be flexible and rich, which is got by operations similar to those in word-processing software. Additionally, a user can insert a picture to beautify layouts, alter font effects and align scores and lyrics as desired. Meanwhile, the method and system have a function for playing back a score. A user can listen in to a score at any time, select and arrange various music instruments as desired to support multiple voice parts. Additionally, the method is complete and intelligent in repeat playback of a score.

There is provided a portable digital media device, including: a storage device; a force sensor coupled to the storage device; a display; and a controller coupled to both the storage device and the display, wherein the display shows information. The device may also be used as a cursor control and input device when connected to a computer. Other applications of the device are also disclosed.
