Abstract:
A fluid compression system (10) includes a compressor, an electric motor (15) including a stator (30) and a rotor (20) positioned adjacent to the stator, and a shaft (40) coupled to the rotor to support the rotor for rotation and having a drive end and a non-drive end. A plurality of flow-inducing elements (205) are integrally-formed as part of the shaft and is adapted to induce a flow of fluid (210) from the non-drive end toward the drive end in response to rotation of the shaft.
Abstract:
A diffuser for use in a centrifugal compressor that includes an impeller that discharges a high-velocity flow of fluid. The diffuser includes a platform having a blade portion and defining a substantially circular aperture. The impeller is disposed at least partially within the aperture such that the high-velocity fluid exits the impeller in directions that are substantially tangent to the blade portion. A vane extends from the platform and includes a suction side, a pressure side, and a leading edge having a platform portion and a shroud portion. A majority of the shroud portion is disposed on the suction side of a line normal to the platform that passes through a center of the platform portion of the leading edge. A shroud is coupled to the shroud portion of the vane such that the vane, the platform, and the shroud cooperate to at least partially define two flow paths.
Abstract:
An air intake silencer assembly (10) at the intake of an air handling system includes a plenum housing (20) having an inlet (23) end for receiving air and having an outlet port (24) for discharging air. Two baffle panels (28) in spaced relation in the housing define, with the housing, an inlet chamber (30) , a central chamber (32), and a discharge chamber (34) . A plurality of tubular (36) members is supported by the baffle panels (28) and each includes a perforated core (40) and a sound dissipating fiber wrapping (42) . Air flows into the inlet chamber, through the plurality of tubular members to the discharge chamber, and is discharged from the discharge chamber through the outlet port.
Abstract:
A running gear support assembly for supporting a portable machine. The running gear support assembly includes a pair of wheel hubs, an axle beam supported between the pair of wheel hubs, and at least one support bracket. The support bracket is coupled to the axle beam and configured to support the portable machine. Substantially the entire weight of the portable machine is supported by the axle beam.
Abstract:
A fluid channeling device is for a percussive drill including a casing having an interior space, drive and valve chambers defined within the interior space, a piston disposed within the casing and having an upper end disposable within the drive chamber and a longitudinal through-bore, and a valve for controlling flow into the drive chamber. The device includes a first member partially disposed within the drive chamber so as to extend into the piston bore when the piston end is within the drive chamber. The first member has an outer surface, an interior space and one or more ports extending between the outer surface and interior space and fluidly connectable with the drive chamber. A second member is disposed within the first member interior and has a passage fluidly connected with the valve chamber and fluidly connectable with the port(s) to establish fluid communication between the drive and valve chambers.
Abstract:
A material handler (10) that includes a frame (12), first and second front wheels (18A, 18B), first and second rear wheels (20A, 20B), and a control system (58). The front and rear wheels define a generally horizontal plane. The control system determines the center of gravity of the material handler and displays the location of the center of gravity of the material handlet within the plane.
Abstract:
A parallel adjustment assembly is provided for a scroll compressor which includes an orbiting scroll (18) and a fixed scroll (14). The parallel adjustment assembly includes a housing (24) and an eccentric guide shaft (32) having opposed first and second ends. A step (44) is defined by the eccentric guide shaft at an intermediate position along the shaft. A first bearing (34) is fixedly mounted on the housing. The first bearing rotatably mounts the first end of the eccentric guide shaft. The eccentric guide shaft is moveable axially with respect to the first bearing. A biasing member (37) biases the eccentric guide shaft in a direction toward the fixed scroll. A positioner (38), which is made integral with the eccentric guide shaft, precisely positions the eccentric guide shaft in the thrust direction.
Abstract:
A method for non-destructive compression of a reactive gas such as ozone employs a liquid used as a compressant or sealant in a compressor (100) where the liquid is substantially free of elements which decompose the gas. Provision is also made for extraction of heat of compression absorbed by the liquid of the compressant or sealant, for addition of chilled and pH adjusted liquid, and for addition of acid, if necessary.
Abstract:
A bleaching process and apparatus for producing high consistency pulp mats with relatively uniform chemical and temperature distribution in the pulp mat employs a washing press (100) in which the mat is formed in a first chamber (I) while a chemical solution which may first be heated or cooled is added to a second chamber (II). Liquor extraction begins in the first chamber (I) and continues through the second chamber (II) to the nip of the rolls (62). Displacement washing of liquor from the pulp mat begins at the juncture of the first and second chambers and continues until the pulp mat enters the nip. By this process, the adjustment of temperature and chemical content is uniformly accomplished with a minimum loss of energy or materials.
Abstract:
A fluid-activated, percussive impact tool has a piston (46) therein that reciprocates longitudinally but not rotationally. The piston activates a wrap spring clutch (96) to rotate the drill steel. A removable splined nut (84) in combination with the tool's housing (42) restrains rotation of the piston, while permitting longitudinal reciprocation of the piston.
