The at least one coolant duct (20) runs at least partially in the rake face (26) towards the main lip (28), and the width increases towards the main lip (28).

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool holder with nubs for clamping a cutting insert with notches.SOLUTION: A tool holder includes a tool holder body with an insert-receiving pocket and a clamp for clamping a cutting insert. The clamp includes a pair of downwardly extending nubs that engage a pair of notches in the cutting insert when the clamp is brought into pressing engagement with the insert, thereby securely clamping the cutting insert in the insert-receiving pocket of the tool holder.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting assembly with enhanced coolant delivery.SOLUTION: A toolholder has a head including a slot separating the head into a lower extension with a lower seat and an upper extension with an upper seat to retain a cutting insert. The head contains a coolant entrance passage which receives a coolant from a coolant source, and a coolant delivery passage which discharges the coolant toward a cutting insert. The cutting insert includes a top surface with an upwardly extending protuberance that can be engaged by the toolholder to rigidly mount the cutting insert in the head of the toolholder. The cutting insert further includes a coolant channel formed at the top surface of the cutting insert that is positioned directly opposite to a coolant discharge port to enhance the flow rate of the coolant delivered to the cutting insert-workpiece interface.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting insert with a titanium oxycarbonitride coating and a method for manufacturing the same.SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a coated cutting insert and the coated cutting insert includes steps of: providing a substrate which has a surface; and depositing a CVD coating layer of titanium oxycarbonitride. A gaseous mixture from which the coating layer of titanium oxycarbonitride is deposited, has a composition of nitrogen, methane, hydrogen chloride, titanium tetrachloride, acetonitrile, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen. The coating layer of titanium oxycarbonitride includes titanium oxycarbonitride whiskers having, as measured in a two-dimensional plane view, an average length longer than about 1.0 μm, an average width larger than about 0.2 μm, and an average aspect ratio larger than about 2.0.

The head region includes a coolant introducing path for storing a coolant fed from a coolant source and a coolant feed path for discharging the coolant toward the cutting insert. The head region further includes a fastener bore for holding a fastener. The fastener has an axial fastener bore for providing a fluid communication between the coolant introducing path and a coolant reservoir provided between the fastener and the fastener bore. The coolant feed path is in communication with the coolant reservoir for storing the coolant that has passed through the axial fastener bore into the coolant reservoir from the coolant introducing path.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool holder, and a tool system including the tool holder and a tool.SOLUTION: The tool holder (2) is achieved to be tightened to a machine tool and also to reversibly accept a radial tool (4), in particular to accept a milling cutter. The tool holder (2) is achieved by three parts including a rear mechanical part (6) made of malleable elastic tool steel for reversibly tightening to the machine tool, a front clamp part (10) made of the tool steel for reversibly accepting the tool (4), and an intermediate part (8) disposed between the rear mechanical part (6) and the front clamp part (10) and made of a heavy metal, in particular a solid hard metal. Since the heavy metal has a larger density than that of the tool steel, the tool holder (2) can better absorb force occurring during milling. Thus, the milling with reduced use of a cutting tool can be achieved, thereby achieving a long service life as a result.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary cutting tool comprising a shank and an exchangeable cutting edge capable of being connected to the shank by a fitting method.SOLUTION: The rotary cutting tool, especially a drill, has the shank (12) and the exchangeable cutting tool (14) capable of being connected to the shank (12). The shank (12) has a locking shaped portion (22) having a undercut portion (24) and a locking projection (55) of the cutting tool (14) projects into the undercut portion (24). A number of side support surfaces and support opposed surfaces are provided in order to fix the cutting tool (14) in the shank (12) from the lateral direction.
