Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of making agglomerated cemented carbide, cermet or ceramic powder mixtures useful for making cutting tools for metal machining, tools for rock drilling and wear parts. SOLUTION: There is provided a method of making a ready-to-press agglomerated powder mixture by wet milling a powder mixture containing a binder and spray drying the slurry to an agglomerated powder useful for making cutting tools for metal machining, tools for rock drilling and wear parts. When the binder is a baroplastic polymer having a pressure induced transformation from hard to soft, well developed agglomerates with good flow properties and good plasticity can be obtained. The hard property of the binder is used at normal pressures, during handling of the spray-dried powder and in the green body, whereas the blended, softer properties are used at higher pressures during the pressing of the material when the pressure exceeds 10 to 50 MPa. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a face-milling insert which comprises a chip-removing main cutting edge adjacent to a first clearance surface and a surface-wiping secondary cutting edge adjacent to a second clearance surface, the main cutting edge forming an angle of 45° with an imaginary straight line in the extension direction of the secondary cutting edge. SOLUTION: Adjacent to a third clearance surface 12, an intermediate cutting edge 11 is formed between the main cutting edge 3 and the secondary cutting edge 4, which intermediate cutting edge is shorter than the main cutting edge 3 and forms an angle within the range 20-40° with the imaginary straight line L. The intermediate cutting edge 11 transforms into the adjacent cutting edges 3 and 4 via arched part cutting edges 13 and 14 adjacent to convex clearance surfaces 15 and 16. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of gel-casting WC-Co cemented carbide powder. SOLUTION: A gelled body obtained by this method can be formed into complex shape and has a high green density, a superior homogeneity and sufficient mechanical properties for the gelled body, and as a result, the gelled body can be taken out from a molding die and dried without causing significant shape-distortions and cracking. In this method, the gelled body is formed by gelling of an aqueous slurry of WC-Co cemented carbide powder having excellent dispersion characteristics. The above gelling can be achieved at the temperature which allows polymerization reaction between a monomer and a crosslinking agent, initiated by a radical (free-radical) initiator. SOLUTION: The tool is provided with: the base body (1); and an exchangeable cutting insert (4) detachably mounted to an insert seat formed on the base body. The insert seat is specified by a bottom surface (10) and at least one side support surface (11), and the cutting insert (1) includes an out of round engagement surface (22) that is pressed against an out of round shoulder surface (29) formed on a separate lock member (24) that is inserted in a space (36) formed in the base body. The space is opened toward the insert seat (4) and is arranged between the bottom surface (10) and the side surface in order to fix the lock member through a lower portion of the cutting insert (5). PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary cutter insert which efficiently and easily performs cutting, and has a resistance force improved against mechanical damage on a rake face. SOLUTION: The rotary cutter insert is equipped with a pair of main cutting edges (4) which are separated from the center (C), and comes in contact with a corner which transfers to a second cutting edge (5) finishing the surface. The second cutting edge (5) intersects with a bisector describing the corner between the pair of main cutting edges. An inclined face (11) inclined toward a disk-shape bottom face (12) in the rake face is formed at the inner side of the individual main cutting edge. A shoulder (15) having a top face (16) on a position higher than the bottom face (12) extends from the second cutting edge (5) to the inner side.
