Class 40 (3) In the circuit of a television transmitter comprising a camera tube of the type having a photocathode and an image section converting the optical image produced on the photo-cathode to an e ectronic image upon a mosaic storage eectrode, the current flowing in the circuit of the photo-cathode is used to develop a voltage measuring the total light flux incident upon the photoelectrode, this voltage is then either used to effect retroactive-control of an iris diaphragm in the path of the light falling upon the photocathode or applied to a meter to enab'e a controlled manual adjustment of the iris diaphragm to be made. The current flowing in the circuit of the photo-cathode 2 results in a potential being developed at the tapping point 12 of the potentiometer 10. This potential is app'ied to the control grid of a modulator valve 13, the cathode circuit of which is coupled to the heater circuit so that the output from the valve comprises a 50 c/s carrier-wave signal modulated in amplitude in accordance with the signal from the photocathode 2. This output signal is rectified at 22 and applied to cathode fol'ower 26, the output from which is applied either to the meter 39 or to a retroactive servo control system to control the light falling on the photo-cathode through an iris diaphragm.
