    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable adding or removing a component without turning off a power source by selectively connecting at least one slot to a first bus in response to a control signal during the operation of an electronic component and selectively connecting at least one slot to a second bus during the test of the electronic component. SOLUTION: A hot plug device 300 has a hot plug logic module 302 provided with both a hot plug controller 303 and an inter-PCI bridge (P2P) 304. Further, the hot plug device 300 is provided with three-way isolation switches 312 and 314 for individually connecting (and disconnecting) individual slots 206 and 207 to (and from) a primary PCI bus 202 and a secondary local PCI bus 306. The three-way isolation switches 312 and 314 are controlled by a control signal sent onto control lines 316 and 318 by the hot plug controller 303. Therefore, a newly inserted adapter card can be tested before connecting it to the primary PCI bus 202.

SOLUTION: This lock includes a process wherein one process tries to obtain a lock for the purpose of mutual exclusion, a process wherein if the trial of obtaining the lock is returned together with an error indicating that a precedent process holding the lock has lost the right of the lock, it is tried to make consistent the program state protected by the lock, a process when the trial of making the program state consistent is successful, the lock is initialized again and released, and a process wherein if the trial of making the program state consistent is not successful, the lock is given an unrecoverable mark and then a following process trying to obtain the lock receives an error indicating that the lock is unrecoverable.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily design a complicated asynchronous pipeline system by using information flowing in a 1st pipeline so as to control the arrangement of information flowing in a 2nd pipeline. SOLUTION: A pipeline accumulator has its adding function divided into three parts. An ADD place 12 includes logic for previous addition and forms a partial sum to be supplied to a Carry1 place 14. The place 14 includes a logic circuit for a previous conveyance step. A partially completed value from the place 14 is passed to a Carry2 place 16 and a seed place 19 through a path 15. Those places complete addition and the place 16 passes the sum to a place 18 through a path 17. The place 19 returns the sum along a bypass route 34 and puts it in the place 12. The place 12 adds input data from an input place 10 to the cumulative sum from the path 34.

SOLUTION: This ONS 404 requests mirror servers 406a and 406b to find a round-trip time of a local name server(LNS) 402. The mirror servers 406a and 406b send name inquiries to the LNS 402 respectively. The LNS 402 sends back an error message, showing that the requested name does not exist. The mirror servers 406a and 406b find the round-trip times from the transmission time of the name inquiries to the error message reception time and send them to the ONS 404. The ONS 404 decides which mirror server 406 has the optimum route.
