Abstract:
The present invention applies to video coding and discloses a method for detecting blocks that are to be indicated as skipped at an earlier stage of the encoding process, than would be the case with a straight forward implementation of the ITU H.263 and H.264 standards. This is provided by transforming the 4x4 blocks in the macro blocks having a skip vector of zero with a binary-transform function. The blocks having values of the four uppermost left binary-transform coefficients less than a predefined threshold, is defined as skipped. Thus, no further costly computational demanding transformation or quantization of these blocks will be necessary.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a method and a gateway for down speeding the data rate at the circuit switched side of a call being translated in the gateway if the packet switched side do not have sufficient bandwidth capabilities for matching the circuit switched data rate. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the gateway will compare the bandwidth of the H.320 and the H.323 side of a call after establishing the connection, i.e preferably directly after signalling has been completed. Then, if the H.323 side of the call is connected at a lower rate than the H.320 side e.g. because of insufficient capabilities of the H.323 endpoint, the gateway will initiate a down speeding procedure at the H.320 side e.g. by means of the features of the BONDING TM technique. The down speeding procedure disconnects a number of B-channels of the H.320 connection to make the call rate equal or lower than the call rate of the H.323 side of the call.
Abstract:
The invention is related to handling various picture resolution in an extended version of the compression standard H.264/AVC or other similar standards. The present invention provides an extension of the standard to include formats like the above-described 4:2:2 and 4:4:4. The method is based on the way chrominance is already treated in H.264/AVC.
Abstract:
A system and a method for exchanging audio, video, and data information between at least two clients in a communication network supported by a central unit. The method comprises the steps of connecting the at least two clients to the central unit using a call control protocol, the call control protocol negotiating video formats and connection information for sending and receiving media streams; transmitting information from a first client to the central unit, the information comprising meta-data describing different media streams the first client is capable of transmitting; transmitting the information received from the first client to the at least one other client; on receiving the information on the different media streams the first client is capable of transmitting, the at least one other client is deciding on which of the available media streams from the first client the at least one other client will subscribe to; transmitting a subscribe message from the at least one other client to the central unit, subscribing to at least one available media stream from the first client; on receiving at least one subscribe message from the at least one other client, the central unit transmits a message requesting the first client to start transmitting media streams subscribed to by the at least one other client; transmitting the media streams subscribed to by the at least one other client from the first client to the central unit; and transmitting the media streams subscribed to by the at least one other client from the central unit to the at least one other client.
Abstract:
A method for scanning macroblocks in video compression and selecting alternatively sized large macroblocks accordingly. The scanning pattern is divided into scanning fragments with a size corresponding to different possible large macroblocks. This allows for varying the size of the selected macroblocks, based on minimizing distortion and/or bit rate consumption.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a control system for a local telepresence videoconferencing system, wherein the telepresence system comprises cameras and display screens, comprising: a graphical user interface comprising a left display icon, a center display icon, a right display icon, and contact field icons 8, wherein each of said contact field icons 8 is associated with a remote videoconference system, touch screen control display for displaying and manipulating the graphical user interface, and where said graphical user interface permits a user to pre-arrange respective assignments of display screens to one or more remote videoconference systems prior to establishing a connection with the one or more remote video conference systems and present an image on said touch screen control display of said respective assignments on said display screens prior to establishing said connection. The invention also relates to a method for establishing a video conference call between a local telepresence videoconferencing system and one or more remote video conferencing system.
Abstract:
A method and a device for reducing keyboard noise in a conferencing equipment which includes a microphone and a keyboard. The method comprises steps of providing an audio signal originating from said microphone; detecting an operation of said keyboard; providing a pre-stored estimate of a keyboard audio noise resulting from said operation of said keyboard; and calculating a noise reduced output signal based on said estimate of said keyboard audio noise and said audio signal. The calculating of the noise reduced output signal may include spectral subtraction techniques. Comfort noise may also be generated and added.
Abstract:
A method for displaying an image on a display, particularly in a video conferencing system, comprising the following steps: providing a primary image; providing an observation angle of a viewer with respect to said display; modifying the primary image as a function of said observation angle, resulting in a modified image; and displaying said modified image on said display. The modifying of the image may include a horizontal scaling of the primary image, in particular extending the primary image with an extension factor which is larger for higher observation angles than for smaller observation angles, e.g. in inverse proportion to a cosine function of the observation angle. If a multi-view display is used, the primary image and the modified image may be displayed in different directions, i.e. to viewers with different viewing angles with respect to the display.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses an inventive microphone assembly for desktop communication systems. It utilises the advantages of directional microphones in a desktop conferencing system without exposing the microphone for unfavourable mechanical or acoustic influence. This is achieved by building it into the footing in front of system, in a mechanically controlled and robust way. The microphone assembly according to the present invention maximize microphone sensitivity in the direction of a near end user while simultaneously minimize microphone sensitivity in the direc-tion of the loudspeaker.
Abstract:
The present invention uses video detection techniques to detect participants and their respective locations in video frames captured by the camera, and based on the location and sizes of said detected participants, automatically determine and use the optimal camera orientation and zoom for capturing the best view of all the participants.
