    Abstract: An apparatus and a method for reducing a peak to average power ratio in a wireless communication system are provided to reduce a peak to power average ratio without increasing an average power by mapping and transmitting modulation symbols to a constellation of a hexagonal modulation scheme. An apparatus and a method for reducing a peak to average power ratio in a wireless communication system includes a modulator(203), a symbol mapper(205). The modulator modulates a transmission signal according to a predetermined QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) modulation scheme. The symbol mapper maps the QAM-modulated symbols to the constellation of a hexagonal modulation scheme to reduce a peak to average power ratio. The hexagonal modulation scheme is designed so that an average power of the hexagonal modulation scheme is not larger than the average power of the QAM modulation scheme.
