Abstract: PURPOSE: A head-end cable modem and a method for verifying upstream allocation algorithm are provided to use upstream band efficiently, by performing performance verification of the algorithm. The head-end cable modem MAC management sub module generates an upstream band allocation message. The head-end cable modem MAC control sub module transmits a response to the upstream band allocation message to the head-end cable modem MAC management sub module. Abstract: A method for updating a software of a modem in a cable network is provided to prevent unreliable cable modems from receiving additional services provided in the future by enabling only reliable cable modems to update software. A method for updating a software of a modem in a cable network comprises the following several steps. A management server eliminates cable modems, whose models are different from registered models, from an update target list(201). The management server eliminates cable modems, which uses excessively the number of requested units, from the update target list because the cable modems do not guarantee reliability(202). If a manager executes an update program, an update server selects one among target cable modems and checks the kind of the selected cable modem(203). The update server selects the kind of an MIB(Management Information Base) to be applied to the checked kind of the cable modem(204). Then, the update server checks information of the cable modem for determining whether the cable modem is a software update target or not(205). If the cable modem is a software update target, the update server performs a software update procedure(206) and checks whether the update procedure is normal(207).
