Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for summarizing video content based on a user. The apparatus includes: a gaze information collecting unit for receiving gaze information of a user about video data; a memory unit for managing identification information to identify an object that is a target of the gaze information among objects included in the video data; a control unit for recognizing an object of interest to which the user pays attention using the gaze information and the identification information; and a summarizing unit for generating summary data of the video data including the recognized object of interest. According to the present invention, summary data can be generated based on a frame that a user considers to be important, or an object or a human existing within the frame.
