    Abstract: An object of a metallic material or other ceramic material than silicon nitride or than a material having silicon nitride as its main component is manufactured by isostatic pressing of a body preformed from a powder of the metallic or ceramic material, whereby the preformed body is embedded in glass, for example embedded in a mass of glass particles, and the embedment, with the body and the embedment placed in a vessel which is dimensionally stable at the temperature at which the sintering of the metallic or ceramic material is carried out, is transferred to a melt having a surface limited by the walls of the vessel, below which surface the preformed body is located, and a pressure necessary for the isostatic pressing of the preformed body then being applied on the melt by a gaseous pressure medium.

    Abstract: Powder is degassed in a plant where the powder flows downwards from one vessel(a) through a pipe(b) into a second vessel(c). Pipe(b) has a by-pass (b1) leading to a vacuum pump; and below pipe(b1) is an adjustable choke(b2) controlling powder flow. In order to reach vacuum pipe(b1), gas removed from the powder must pass up a column of the powder which traps any fine powder particles carried upwards by the gas. Pipe(b) is pref. fitted with a by-pass(b2a) round choke (b2), which is followed by a heater located round tube(b), esp. an induction heating coil. Below the heater, a branch pipe pref. leads to a second vacuum pump used e.g. to evacuate vessel(c), which receives the degassed powder. Esp. used for powders which are to be subsequently compacted by isostatic pressing, e.g. superalloy powders or Si3N4, where all gases must be removed before pressing.
